page title appearing in the menu AND in body of page….as an unwanted header
-
some one did help me with this, with the following advice:
http://wpbtips.wordpress.com/2011/12/19/custom-menus/ and scroll down to Other options, special cases and tricks. Then scroll to: f. Tabs for static pages but no page titles on the actual pages….
Which was –
f. Tabs for static pages but no page titles on the actual pages
After you add the pages to the menu, click their arrows to open them, type an additional character in the Navigation Label, click Save Menu.
Go to Pages > All Pages, hover under each page name, click Quick Edit, replace title with (HTML for a space), click Update.
Back to Appearance > Menus: delete the additional character from the Navigation Labels, click Save Menu.Which worked but left me with the problem as described below..
Thanks for your help….I followed the instructions – I assume by additional character it means anything like “t” for example?
Anyway, partial success as the page title is still visible in the menu and does not appear on the pages, BUT now all my pages in my dashboard have no titles so i can’t see which page is which….? Should this happen? I suppose so as i have deleted the title…..but if this is meant to happen it obviously makes navigating to the correct page in my dashboard tricky with no titles.
Did I do something wrong or am i missing something obvious?I didn’t get a follow up reply so i wonder if anyone else can help???
Thanks in advance if you can!

Hi there. You did nothing wrong. You have deleted the page titles, so they won’t display in the dashboard either. Effectively your pages don’t have titles now. That’s the only way to not have a title display without using CSS.
Understand that the post where you got these instructions is not a WordPress.com support doc, but a post by a blogger who gives workarounds to achieve stuff that aren’t actually features of WordPress.com. While Panos’s (the blogger who owns that blog) tips usually work very well, they often have unintended consequences like this. They are “cheats” and don’t work perfectly.
If you want your pages to have titles in the dashboard, but not display on the site, you’re going to have to do it via CSS, for which you’ll need the custom design upgrade.
You can post in the CSS customisation forum for info on what code will be needed to hide page titles from displaying: https://en.forums.wordpress.com/forum/css-customization#postform
See here for more info on purchasing the custom design upgrade:

OK….kokkieh thanks for you help.
Any reason why you have to upgrade to custom design to edit CSS? Could WP make it a feature if they wanted to? Or is it not allowed as a way to differentiate the free and paid service and thus make money? I am not complaining if it is just curious….
