Page width changes when tiled background is added (2010 theme)?

I have two wordpress.com blogs, one “real” and one for testing:
    http://scvgs.org
    http://t123123.wordpress.com

They both use the 2010 theme. The first has a tiled background while the second has a background color but no background image.

If I have both home pages open in different browser tabs at the same time, it’s clear that the header photo is narrower in the production blog with the tiled background, and wider in the test blog. It’s the same photo, one of the standard ones for the theme.

This is not a problem. It’s something I just noticed that seems odd. I was wondering if anybody else has noticed it or can explain what’s going on. Does this happen with all themes, or just 2010? Thanks.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

I just visited both blogs and I don’t see the difference you are talking about. I’m using Google Chrome on Windows 8 and using Chrome’s Web Developer Tools, both images have the same dimensions of 940×203.

It could be that it looks wider in the test blog for you because of the background color and there is no visible distinction between the header background and general background like there is in the actual site.

Thanks for checking. It’s helpful to know it doesn’t happen everywhere. It doesn’t just look wider, though. If I use the Windows snipping tool, the first header is 1129 x 289, and the second 1228 x 317.

I suspect it has something to do with the theme being “responsive” and how Firefox handles that. I can tell the browser to zoom in and out, changing the image size. Maybe it’s “remembering” different zoom levels for different pages. I think I’ll let it go at that.
