Page width (using more of it) and space trouble blocks

Hello – I’m back……
A few years ago I moved from.com to .org – but now I’m back on .com!
During 2020 (pandamic year) the attacks on my little site got more and more frequent – up to hundreds a day. I got fed up by new year.So now I get to learn dealing with the block-editing……..
and after trashing several drafts, I have to come here for guidance (although I have certainly searched/read what’s to be found).
1) I start with blank page; how can I use (more of) the page width?
I can’t move blocks – adjust the width of them, and frankly also the height.
The blocks get cramped in the middle of the page.2) I can not get Vimeo video(s) embedded, can not adjust the size of them
(and yes, I have followed “how to”)
Should I use another way of embedding to have this succeed?3) If I want to embed 2 videos underneath each other, there’s this huge space
between them – I have tried many things, but can’t get them closer together.My site mainly will display videos. Since there’s no lightbox, I will have to find
a way to have them display at min 640×360.

1. Width is generally controlled by the theme. If multiple widths are available, you’ll find the option in the block toolbar: https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor/blocks/paragraph-block/#block-toolbar
2. Make sure you use the Embed block: https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor/blocks/embed-block/ and you’ll find different widths under the alignment options in the block toolbar.
3. That’s a know issue we’re looking into. In short, if you set the video to be wider than the theme allows, the theme scales it down, but that blank space below is how tall the video would be, so try a smaller width.

Hi – and thank you for getting back to me.
I am still trying out drafts – and see the point with the theme(s).
I’ve looked at free themes, but also the premium ones, I guess I’ll have to look again. I have access to the classic editor but as of now I’m not wiser if I try out that with the theme activated – because that one is built on the block thing I imagine.I have now managed to embed a couple of videos and gotten the hang of that.

In fact; using the classic editor – can I change the font size of “Title” – or will it ruin/clash with the theme possibly?

What you have is looking good so far! If I can ask, do you happen to have any sites (does not have to be WordPress) that you are drawing inspiration from or trying to emulate?
Maybe it will help to see an example of a site that is similar to the one you are trying to create now, so we can guide you toward that goal.

I’ve had a site going for some years, WP.org, which had nearly 50k.
I used a theme from theme forest, but over the years I used more Elementor to get the looks I wanted. Now I have terminated that site – which I had a domain registrated, it’s only the front page left . As I mentioned in first post, the abuse and hacking attempts got too much during last year, the site was damaged from a WPstatistics update and I had to pay a lot for help to recover – and it all got too expensive, too much work to block “visitors” (Wordfence). Maybe hackers were thinking “oh- here’s a site to practice on!”.
I don’t do “pro” productions anymore. While on YT (not any more!) I sometimes came across videos which had bits and pieces stolen from my videos. Same thing has happened with my music/record produced a lifetime ago. That record has been stolen, copied and sold in most parts of the world many times since the 70s. A lot of people have made money from it – not me.Ok – so back to this WP.com site :)
What I like to do, or would prefer to do, is having 2 columns (mostly) on the pages. One column with videos, one column with a little text side by side.
After 3 days, I can’t get that to happen! It seems if you choose 2 columns, it’s impossible to move “blocks” in to the columns. In fact, I really can’t move blocks with the “drag” button.
And- maybe there is a way to reduce space between blocks,
but I can’t find that way.Maybe there is a theme somewhere which could be suitable, but I haven’t found one yet. I’m on personal plan (have to reduce cost from earlier). Maybe I have to upgrade to premium – and/or additional css?
The “Title” on each page bothers me. I’ve studied the html – not finding it.
Maybe that’s a theme thing……….Nina

Are you following the action seen here: https://wordpress.com/support/wordpress-editor/#move-blocks ? What behaviour are you experiencing exactly when it comes to moving blocks?

That can be tweaked with CSS, but in order to use that CSS, the site would need to be on the premium plan.
What if I have to use Vimeo video embed?

I see the spacer being used too – which is pushing content down on the right hand side columns.

Getting rid of title on pages got to be very easy!
There is a way, I just had to find it.
Publish without title>customize>menu>then alter the page number to what’s going in as menu text.Well….getting along!
