Page/Header
-
I would like to know how to get each post I write to fall under a designated page. For example, I have a “recipe” header/page and I would want all recipe posts created to fall there and only there, how would I do that? I assumed it was by tag. Please assist.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi Vonnie!
If you want to have a “Recipes” section, I would advice you to create a Recipes category, and add a link to that on your main Menu.
Pages can not be made to contain only a certain type of Post.
You could have a setup like this:
- http://yviesismee.wordpress.com/ — Your current landing page “Home”.
- http://yviesismee.wordpress.com/blog/ — A new page, configured to be your “Posts page“, currently you have one called “Recipes” as your “Posts page”.
- http://yviesismee.wordpress.com/category/recipes/ — An automatically generated page, which will show all your posts under the Recipes category (just like you now have Africa/Food/Hair links on your menu).
Does that make sense?

The third point made doesn’t resignate. “An automatically generated page”? You’re saying I name my Posts page “recipes”??? The posts page are all posts created, correct? I’d like “Home”, “Beauty” (with a drop down of Hair), “Food/Diet”, and maybe “Fitness”. How would I create those? Would I need to go to all posts and place accordingly?

Automatically generated page means that you don’t need to do anything, the page will exist as soon as you have any post in that Category.
For example, here’s your Category Page (which is, automatically generated) for the Food Category:
http://yviesismee.wordpress.com/category/food/The page you choose to designate as your “Posts Page” will contain all your posts. That’s correct. We can configure this after we get your menu and site structure just like you want it.
To have Home – Beauty (with Hair dropdown) – Food/Diet – Fitness, as the elements on your top bar we need to take a few steps:
- Create any Category that doesn’t already exist.
- I see you already have a Food and a Fitness categories.
- You don’t have a Beauty category. To create it, go to Dashboard > Posts > Categories and add it.
- Add your Category links to the top bar.
- Go to Dashboard > Appearance > Menus and expand the “Categories” white box (I don’t mean the dark sidebar links). You’ll see a list of your Categories.
- Select “Beauty” and click Add to Menu.
- Edit the Menu to make each element have the label you prefer. Click on the small triangle of each element in the Menu Structure area and you’ll see it expand to show you a few options like Navigation Label, this is the label that will appear on your top bar.
Give these instructions a try and I’ll give you a hand if you have any trouble along the way.
- Create any Category that doesn’t already exist.

Thank you. I’ve done that. I appreciate your patience. What happens when I “create a new menu”? I changed name of menu to “adventures” for that’s what I want all the posts under. Does this mean I don’t need the “adventures” category? Or do I need to go to “Page” to make that change. I’m confused

Hi Vonnie!
A “Menu” is only a list of links, literally, a menu of different items :-). There are places in your site where you can instruct WordPress.com to use a certain Menu, thus, displaying its list of links in a certain place.
Most themes require you to explicitly set a “Primary Menu“, that is the Menu from where the theme will get the elements for a navigation bar, in most cases. Since you have changed your theme, you’ll notice that the navigation bar no longer reflects your “Adventures” menu and its list of links.
To make your new theme use the “Adventures” Menu, you need to select that as the Primary Menu in Dashboard > Appearance > Menus (Manage Locations tab), here’s a shortcut:
https://yviesismee.wordpress.com/wp-admin/nav-menus.php?action=locationsYou can also do this from the Customizer, from the Menus element on the right sidebar:
https://yviesismee.wordpress.com/wp-admin/customize.phpPages are used for putting some static content into your blog, like an “About Me” page, or a “My Best Photos” page. They are not related to Categories, you can have one without the other, or both if you prefer.
If you would like to make all your Posts be in a specific Category you can use the “Bulk Post Editor” for that. Take a look here:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/edit-posts-screen/Using that feature, you could select groups of your Posts and put them under the right Category, or Categories, where you want them. Be careful, as there is no way to undo this changes easily.
Let me know if this is getting you closer to your ideal setup.

You are welcome :-).
By the way, I noticed that your Posts page (the page configured to show all your posts automatically) is still set to:
http://yviesismee.wordpress.com/recipes-2/But I couldn’t find any link to it in your Front Page. Perhaps you would like to add a link to that? Maybe change the address to /blog/ instead of /recipes-2/?
I can help you with that. Would you like to make that change?

Hey there!
I changed a few things and your blog posts are now here:
http://yviesismee.wordpress.com/blog/Also, I added a link to that page in your menu. Take a look and let me know if it looks good to you, and if there’s anything else I can help you with :-))
