Pages

Add pages to my wordpress site. I have added four pages and created content and published – but they don’t appear on my site: training484.wordpress.com Why? WordPress does not seem to give my a site map where I can see how the site is structured.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Howdy –
It sounds like you’re trying to add Page 1, Page 2, Page 3, Page 4 into your menu? Is that right?
Right now the pages and content exist. You’ll find them at My Sites > Pages.
This guide explains how to customize your menu: https://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/
It looks like you added these pages to an alternate menu, but this menu is not the one being displayed on the site.
Head over to My Sites > Menu
There are 2 drop down boxes at the top of the page that you’ll want to configure.Let me know if you need further help with this.

Thanks heaps. I have now added pages under one menu and they appear in the theme on the top RHS ‘Page One’, ‘Page Two’ etc. Haven’t figured out how to edit them to be meaningful yet. Also when I click on ‘Page One’ it comes up as ‘Page Two’ and the others all come up as ‘Page Four’..? This is not how they appear in My Site > Menu
I tried to edit the other menu without success. Nothing changes in the footer or site title. I have tried editing from here https://wordpress.com/customize/training484.wordpress.com and from My Sites > Menu When I go to ‘View Page’ the edits appear but either I can’t navigate to the ‘front end’ and see what the WWW sees or else they are not appearing?

Did you add the menus as “Custom” or did you drag and drop them in? Try adding the pages in without any customizations to the URLs. That should correct the issue.

I think you will have an easier time working on the menu through the classic, wp-admin view. You can get to this dashboard by adding /wp-admin/ to the end of your site URL.
Here’s a direct link to the menu editing: https://training484.wordpress.com/wp-admin/nav-menus.php
At the top there are 2 tabs, to edit the menus and also their location on the site.
Let me know which menu should be where, and what each menu should include and I’ll help get it straightened out.

Thanks all. Dashboard makes a lot more sense. :-) Playing around with it all now but menus are where they should be and pages link through so that’s positive.

OK I have one other question. I am using the Goran theme and when I go to blabla.wordpress.com/home/ it looks great. However the landing page at blabla.wordpress.com looks quite different. The headings are there and the header colours, but the Goran theme picture is gone and I am invited to write a post. I selected static pages…so how do I apply the theme to the landing page? I really just want the theme picture and headings on the landing page. :-) I have tried using the Customiser tool without success.

Good Morning –
The theme will be applied to the entire site when you activate it.
Here are the setup instructions for Goran: https://wordpress.com/themes/goran
Read over the custom page templates section.
This theme also uses featured images. You’ll want to assign a featured image to each page that you want to display a header image. You can do this by editing the page. Go to My Sites > Pages > Page Title > Edit — then on the left you’ll see Featured Image > Add New.
Which page do you want your visitors to see when they first come to your site?

Hi Liz
It all worked. There is a landing page which looks fine. Has links for ‘About’ ‘Posts’ ‘Contact’ and some additional menu items I added. It works equally well if the ‘About’ page is the landing page because it shows exactly the same links. Happy for visitors to arrive there.

No problem. You can change the front page of the site anytime with these instructions: https://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/front-page/#2-set-a-static-front-page

Hello again and welcome to 2017 :-)
Having worked on a test site in wordpress.com I bought a domain name and hosting solution to set up a more comprehensive site in wordpress.org. Its pretty similar and I have created the page and menu structure but doesn’t have the ‘My Sites’ button from which featured images can be added. I want to apply the standard image in the Goran theme to the landing page, then to the header of each of the child pages. Are you able to provide me with some advice on this? When I try to customise it only adds as a strip down each side of the page and there is no image library as such.

Hi –
To clarify, you are now using self hosted WordPress to build the site?
Help for self hosted WordPress sites is available in the WordPress.org support forums. https://wordpress.org/support/
