    can’t figure out how to add categories that will appear when mousing over a page in the menu…I take a category and move it to the right under a page in appearances/menus, but that doesn’t work

    Make sure you have “saved” the menu after making the change and make sure you have chosen the custom menu in the “primary location” pulldown in the theme location module, and saved there.

    Also, categories will not show up until they have been assigned to at least one published post otherwise when someone went to that category page there would be nothing to show and it would produce a 404 not found error.
