pages

I added a page for a special fundraising event and choose the option for the website to open to that page instead of the blog page which was previously designated as the home page. That worked and it didn’t work! When people went to the site, http://www.giers.org, it opened with the event we were promoting. The part that didn’t work was that the Home or Blog page was no longer clickable for people to go to. I was ok with that for a while till the event was over. Now that the event has passed (May 25th) I don’t know how to deactivate the added event page and get back a functioning blog page. We have a lot to blog about after the fundraiser but people coming to our site see the out-of-date event information and can’t navigate to the blog page.

    Hi there!

If you’d like to go back to having your home page be your blog entries, all you’ll need to do is log in to your account’s Dashboard and then navigate to Settings >> Reading and change the very first setting to “Your Latest Posts” and then click the save changes button at the bottom of the page.

That should work for you! Let me know if you have any questions!

Thank you, that did it! Here’s another question. The fundraising event is over and I want to make that page invisible to the public but I don’t want to erase or delete it completely. I want to keep it as an example or template for future events.

That’s not a problem. All you need to do is go to your Dashboard and then Pages and then edit that page. On the right hand side of the screen, under status, change it from “Published” to “Draft.” That will unpublish it, but keep it in your account for later reference!

Thank you for that reply. It sounded so simple but when I changed the page in question from Published to Draft and saved it, the page was still visible to the public! I even changed it from Public to Private but that didn’t hide the page either. What next?

Could you please save the page in question as a draft and let me know the title of the page so I can take a look? Thanks!

Ok, the page is saved as a draft: The God Box – A One Women Performance…
    Thanks

  • Thanks! The page looks correctly saved as a draft, and is not visible to the public.

As administrator of your site, you can still see it, but try logging out of your account – you won’t be able to view the page. Or, try a different browser in which you’re not logged in – the page isn’t visible.

You’ll also want to remove the page from your custom menu under Appearance > Menus:
    https://giersgroup.wordpress.com/wp-admin/nav-menus.php

Let me know how it goes!

That fixed it! When I removed the page from the menu, the tab was removed from the website. Thank you.

  • Excellent, glad that did the trick!
