pages and categories question

  • Unknown's avatar

Hello, first off, I did a forum search with no results, sorry if this has already been answered somewhere.

I’m not sure what the difference between categories and pages are. I want to create pages at the top of my blog and when I post I want to direct them to a particular page, so when someone clicks that page, they see posts related to that page(topic). However it seems that’s what categories if for, however categories are not at the top of my page, pages are! How do I direct a post to land under a particular page? I’d rather do that than categorize every post. Confused :(

    Thanks for the help!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

We can’t answer questions without a link to your blog, starting with http. Also, click the post directly under this one on the main forum page; it answers that question.

Wow, that was a long way around to nothing. You mentioned at the very end of that one thread that you know there’s a way to but “can’t find it right now”. So, how about someone who knows give me an answer instead of someone who has no idea, but thinks a link to my blog will somehow help, when it’s irrelevant to the question? That would be great :)

Sure, have a full refund, and good luck with that.

Nice attitude. Do you always answer questions you don’t know the answer to then attack the OP for being frustrated after following your links to other links that go nowhere?

Awesome. Anyone that would care to help me, I’d really appreciate it, thanks! :)

That thread HAS the answer you were looking for: the difference between pages and categories. It also has many pointers to what you want, which is a way to link the header tabs to your category pages. If, with this more refined information, you are unable to find the instructions for doing it, why would I go out of my way to give it another shot, after you’ve been an ass to me?

And yes, once people lower their standards of behavior like that, I’m always like this. Because negative reinforcement works.

Also, you’re apparently missing the part about “We cannot help you without a link to your blog, starting with http.” So I will repeat it:

We cannot help you without a link to your blog, starting with http.

I don’t see the “link header tabs to categories” info anywhere you listed, and I wasn’t being nasty until you pounced on me. With that said, I’m taking the higher ground and walking away from this. Clearly this thread went astray and thanks to you, I go unanswered.

    No hard feelings, take care.

Oh, and a link to my blog is irrelevant considering my broad question, which would be senseless anyway considering your answers and behavior. Adios!

There may or not be a way, but without a link to your blog, no one can answer accurately. We are volunteers here, so we have no access to your private information.

Why so shy? You have a public blog that you want to (presumably want to) promote, so what’s so hard about providing a link, staritng with http:// ?

A link to your blog is not irrelevant. If you are self-hosted then the trick of adding links to header tabs probably will not work. If you are self-hosted then you are in the wrong forum.

Raincoaster is one of the most experienced forum volunteers. She knows the answers to your questions. So does Tess and thesacredpath. So do I and other volunteers. But we don’t answer questions without a link to your blog. You may think that this request is “irrelevant to the question”, but you’re wrong. Among other reasons because part of the answer depends on the theme you’re using. Get it?

As for attitude, when you come here for advice, you cannot be the one that’ll tell us how best to advise you.
