Pages and Newsletter setup

  • Unknown's avatar

Hi there… I’m new to this, so please bear with me. Yesterday I set up a basic blog/site using WordPress.com. I added a new Page – labelled ‘Books’ – but it hasn’t appeared on my site. I’m wanting to set up a newsletter sign up form (via Mail Chimp), and to place adverts on my site, too. Within the next couple of days I will be upgrading my plan to the Premium plan. Am I able to do these things on the free plan, or do I have to wait until I’ve upgraded?
Thank you for your time and patience.
    Blessings.
    Gavin

    Hello @gavinswhyte
    Welcome to WordPress.COM!

I added a new Page – labelled ‘Books’ – but it hasn’t appeared on my site.

First, make sure you Published the page by clicking the PUBLISH button on the top right corner of the page editor.

And then, follow these steps to add the page to the menu-bar of your site so that it is easily accessible.
    1. Go to My Site(s) → Customize(Beside the Themes option) or just click here: https://wordpress.com/customize/. This will open the site Customizer.
    2. On the sidebar of the Customizer click on the Menus > tab.
    3. Click the Primary > tab.
    4. Click Add Items button.
    5. On the Pages tab add the Books page and then click Save & Publish.

I’m wanting to set up a newsletter sign up form (via Mail Chimp)

Here’s the official support guide that might help you setting up MailChimp for your site: https://en.support.wordpress.com/mailchimp/

and to place adverts on my site, too.
As a blogger on WordPress.com you can use WordAds-the official WordPress.com advertising program available for site/blog owners.

There are 3 paid plans on WordPress.com: Personal, Premium and Business. You can upgrade to any of these plans to monetize your site/blog using WordAds and start making money.

More info on making money using WordAds here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/monetize-your-site/#advertising

Please Note: The amount of money you make via WordAds depends on Ad impressions(not Ad Clicks). Check out this forum topic to see how the earnings are calculated: https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/how-are-the-earnings-in-wordads-calculated?replies=3#post-919750

You do not have direct access to WordAds with Personal plan(like you do with the Business or Premium plans). You have to meet some eligibility criteria if you want to use WordAds with the personal plan. One of the eligibility criteria is a custom domain — which can be registered using this plan.

Read more about other ways to monetize your site/blog:
    https://en.support.wordpress.com/monetize-your-site/

    NOTE:

Advertisements from third-party ad networks like Google AdSense, OpenX, Lijit, BuySellAds, and Vibrant Media are not allowed on WordPress.com.

As stated in this official support document: https://en.support.wordpress.com/monetize-your-site/

Within the next couple of days I will be upgrading my plan to the Premium plan. Am I able to do these things on the free plan, or do I have to wait until I’ve upgraded?

You can do all of the above without upgrading, but to have direct access to WordAds you need to upgrade to a premium or business plan as mentioned above.

    Hope this helps 🙂
