Pages as Blogs
-
I had an idea and looking around the forum it would seem that several newbies just assume this feature exists, so heck wouldn’t it be cool if…You could use the pages as either a static page like it is now OR a secondary blog.
Pretty much every news site is set up like this, there is a different tab for “sports” and then one for “food” (see yahoo news and or espn for examples). This would not replace the idea of categories but rather allow people to write about two or more completely unrelated topics without having to mix them together on the same page. I think this add-on would aid those with “multiple blog syndrome” and would make the WordPress.com blogs look more professional like the news sites many try to emulate anyway. Lastly by limiting the the quantity of information to relevant pages it would make each blog more accessible to non-bloggers. Heck it could even be made a “plus” feature like extra storage, i know id pay for it.

You can do that now if you’re willing to pay; you just need the WordPress.org software and independent hosting. You may have to pay a techie for some help, but tons of WP.org blogs do this.

That is true but like many i would consider myself a “sandwich blogger”, I’m not that into it that i want to spend time (and money) self hosting and dealing with all that…but I’m certainly not a newbie to blogging and can see the value of a select few features from the more advanced software. I get that its a more advanced feature, but offering more advanced features Ala cart would be a great way for WordPress to make more money to advance their business.

@archer
I think you can achieve what you are trying to do by making, say, two or three or more exact same looking blogs, with a text widget (or link widget) in the sidebar that contains the links to the other blogs. This way all blogs look the same and appear to be from the same “publisher” so to speak. They now have their individual categories and pages and tags, and are not mixed up in one blog. And you also get the extra storage, since all blogs have 3GB, so 3 blogs would be 9GB total storage. As an extra you can add the RSS feed from the individual blogs in the sidebar, so the reader visiting one “section” blog can see what’s the latest on the other section blog. I don’t think WordPress need to make this into an extra feature, it’s already there, if you know how to use it. Finally you can make a main home page blog pointing to the individual sections. Get the idea? -
Don’t know if it is feasible given that the software being run on WordPress.com is different than that of self-hosted blogs.
Of course, you could just sign up for more than one WordPress.com blog.

Thanks for all the responses everyone, I’m a bit overwhelmed by the dedication of people that aid users on theses forums for no gain of their own. However, to insure that other users with a more dire need of assistance get help I will explain my motivation for posting this, and hopefully (crosses fingers) WordPress developers will hear my call.
I did not pose this idea because I was frustrated with trying to make this feature work, I knew full well it wouldn’t. Further I had also considered some of the options suggested as well as some others…only to find them inadequate. Simply put I wanted to suggest a feature WordPress could add, possibly at a cost to increase revenues and give intermediate bloggers more advanced features that will keep them in the WordPress.com ecosystem. This would be moderately profitable and would make many bloggers happy.
In conclusion when I posted this I assumed this was the forums equivalent of a “suggestion box” and that it might put a little bird in the ear of the development team, it was not my intent to work out a solution. I apologize if i posted in the wrong place. Further, this particular feature was a deal breaker and as stated I was willing to pay I would simple set-up shop at Typepad as they do offer this feature. I have no intention of doing this of course because WordPress is a superior product with a lot of growth potential. What does everyone else think about adding more advanced features whether free of paid?

oops, the sentence in the last paragraph should read “Further, IF this particular feature was a deal breaker….”

You posted in the right place; I didn’t see that it wasn’t posted in the support forum. :->
Suggest away. :)

lol thanks, and i will.
On a totally unrelated noted, why on Earth are the response time stamps matching up with the time in Iceland? Is that where WP is based?

It’s GMT, which is three hours behind me. All I know is that it routinely makes me late for work!
