Pages, Categories & Drop down lists

  I am trying to create a blog and I created a drop down list and its popping up successfully but, when I click on any of the pages in the drop down list it doesn’t take me to a new page or show that its trying to load something… I’m worried I might have not added the page right I mean it doesn’t even pull up a template page, Did I not connect the links properly? I read some articles on line that told me to add pages in a drop down list as a custom link, using ‘#’ in the href text box and the title I want the page to be called in the second text box. i followed those instructions and all works up until i try to access the page, My ultimate goal is to have a main menu, with drop down lists of category pages.
