Pages = Categories: Possible?

    Is is possible to make a page that would just call up a given tag. For example, I’d like to have a page added to my navbar that would call up everything I’ve posted tagged with “vancouver”. And another for the “music” tag and so on…

    I’ve tried a quick search of the forums and couldn’t find anything relevant so my apologies if this has already been covered.

    Just click on Vancouver in your sidebar and POOF! up comes your local tag page.

    Note that if you click on a tag in the post itself you’re directed to the WP.com global tag page for that tag. Only the tags listed in the sidebar link to your local pages, and there’s no way to swap that around.

    You DO have to put the categories widget in your sidebar, of course.

    But the sidebar doesn’t cut it for me. i’d like the same prominent display as “About” gets. My categories are my pages so to speak – there are five or so main ones that define the blog and they’re all different. They are what I want to highlight to my readers (eg. in the navbar as “Home/Vancouver/Music/Politics”…)

    You can achieve this in a work around way by making a site index or indicies. I’ll be back in a minute.
    Okay here you go. This is from the FAQs

    My sidebar gets a LOT more clicks than my About page. Think about it: the sidebar is displayed on every single page, including individual posts, the main blog, and static pages (unless you’ve chosen a template that shows them only on the main blog page, in which case DO NOT DO THAT). A tag page exists only in one place, and it’s always at least one click away. Sidebars have a lot more exposure, and consequently a lot more usage.

    hello dubesor,

    so, you want an option that would allow to append a listing of Posts (or just a list of post titles linking to posts) filed into the Category with the same name as a Page title to the page contents (which may be empty itself or, in contrary, possibly contain some introductory text telling visitor about a category in question), right?

    alas, no, it’s not possible on wp.com

    although I feel it’s more like up to themes makers, I like your idea and find it interesting and useful enough (as an add-on to the WP usability and navigation [or rather somewhat lack thereof] for to be implemented and included into the WP core.

    and in fact there’s already some embryo of it in the source — it’s so called “Page Style” available with default themes.

    my guess, best bet would be propose this idea through Feedback form on your dashboard and post it to the “Ideas” sub-forum here and also on .org forums at the http://wordpress.org/extend/ideas/

    there’s a very slight chance it’d be ever implemented, but at least it’ll be heard.
