@sondan, Just as a precaution, if you have a virus and spyware scanner installed on your computer, run it/them to make certain you do not have a spyware keystroke logger or virus that has snuck in on you. One you have scanned everything and it has given you an all clear (or removed whatever is there, if there is something there) log into your wordpress account and change the password on your account, and make sure it contains both letters and numbers and that the password strength meter indicates it is a strong one.

Thank you for the advice Sacred Path – as soon as I get home I am gonna run every virus and spyware program I have again. I generally do this weekly – I hope it is not something new that my spyware won’t find.

This is just so frightening. I never expected anything like this would ever happen. I was enjoying blogging so much. Plus I am disapointing me regular readers by not making my regularly scheduled postings.

Oh well I hope that between the users, techies and support staff you guys can get to the bottom of what caused this horrendous thing to happen. I don’t want to ever go through this again.

Alex – I got you emails. Thanks I know you are working on it.

DrMike Temp – I still wouldn’t mind the “Dummies'” or “Idiot’s” version of how those ad-ons might casue such a thing. I just don’t get it – but I am interested in learning and understanding please. So I hope you come back to this thread.

Just thinking – after this one is resolved I think there should be a new article in the FAQ on this. This is just so awful that I would not wish it on anyone else.

Well I am going into the 4th day of not having my blog intact. I am PRAYING that it will be restored in the next 12 hours.

Is anyone familiar with the service?
    http://www.techrigy.com/bbohelp/doku.php

They backup up your blog daily and you can restore is asap and not have all of this stress and strain and waiting. You pay and them you don’t have to depend on anyone else from reading their site. If you are not familiar with this do you know of any alternatives to this site/service?

    Thanks

  • Unknown's avatar

I’m not familiar with that service or any like it, but you can perform backups yourself. There’s a helpful post about it here:

  • Unknown's avatar

yes I read that months ago but I surmised that WP backups our blogs and we shouldn’t do this all the time just on occassion. Frankly I wouldn’t have the space to store backups as I post minimally three time per week.

Has anyone here ever had WP restore their site? How long should this be taking?

    Thank in advance.

I think at this point you need to send staff a reminder, via the Support button on your dashboard. They might have backups, but they also might not, because to WP.com it would look as if you’d deleted these things yourself.

    Hi Raincoaster,

Yes, I reminded staff and got a backup installed this morning. I was asked to check it out and did as soon as I got the request. Only my last post made the day BEFORE the incident was missing and all of the categories & tags. I can re-enter the categories, but I wrote back about the last post immediately. Unfortunately I did not hear back even thought I wrote well withing the CS hours hoping for a resolution before closing time.

Anyway I really wanted to get back to blogging and publishing my first post on Monday since it has been a week of no post and my stats have really gone down. Looks like I am losing my readership that I worked so hard to build up.

I was wondering if you could give me you opinion please — can I go on and write and publish my entries for next week even thought I haven’t gotten my last post restored yet or should I wait until Monday and hope that it gets done before publishing? I am trying to be patient but it is very hard. But I don’t want to enter something that will cause Customer Svc a problem in restoring that last post.

Once I publish my posts I delete my working draft so I can’t restore it myself, but I HAVE LEARNED A LESSON ABOUT THAT! I am going to purchase another external hard drive and keep another copy of all my blog entries on it for ever and ever more if I cannot find an alternative blogging site to crosspost my WP.com blog on. Amen (LOL)

Thanks for reading and thanks for you assistance.
You seem knowledgable about these things so I really would like you opinion since I have no clue as to what restoring a backup entails.

    Thanks again for your time

    Hello,

I sent two emails this weekend with data related to my blog restoration and also one today to inquire about the status. It is now 6pm EST (midday PT) and I haven’t yet gotten a reply or acknowledgement of receipt for any of the three emails.

Any suggestions on how to contact support besides the support at wordpress addresss. I really really want to get this situation resolved and behind me so I can can use my blog again and I am a tad concerned.

    Thank You

It’s me again. I have decided that I am tracking down the last two unrestored posts in the google cache and I am going to attempt recreating them and I will re-categorize and tag everything so that I can get on with my blog and my life. Life is too short and I guess Customer service has other things they deem priority. Hopefully someone from customer service will read this post and know that I am self-restoring the remainder and they won’t decide to do it too – then I will have duplicates.

Thanks to any who helped me out. Have a good week.

Just wanted to post here in case support stopped by – I restored all I could from the google cache – but as I wrote you two days ago, I came across more February posts/comments missing that I hope you can please restore at your earliest convenience. Details of posts titles and dates were in the emails.

    Thank you so much.

  • Unknown's avatar

Well I am still awaiting and have been writing Customer service pretty much every day. Here is my last email in hopes that one of the customer service reps will read this thread.
    Happy tax day everyone.

Well I got a reply from CS today saying that they could not find the missing posts, but a few days ago I finally found what I believe to be 95 percent of the missing posts using a combination of the Google Cache and the Technorati Cache. Keep these two sources in mind for future reference and I recommend outside backup as well.

Thanks for you input along this three week journey.

    Yippee Yio!

That is great to hear. Thank god you were able to get everything back.
