pages help

  Hi, I am new to wordpress and the main reason i started my new blog here instead of blogger was because of the category option and pages option, I wanted to be able to do something like a web site and not the normal blog post. I was thinking of making a main page for the subject and post articles in sub pages, just like a real web page. But I ahve no idea how to use the pages section and I wrote one page but it didnt show up and also I do not understand how to write sub pages on wordpress. any help

  When you write a subPage, you have the option to chosing a Page Parent along the right hand side of the Write Page screen.

  Sounds more like you want either a CMS though or a Wiki, not a blog.

  Well the thing with that is that I want the main parent page just to have a shirt description of wats in there, the sub pages will be the articles. The problem with that is that on the sidebar, it showevery page no only parent pages which makes for a long list. And I could put up one main post with links to the other pages, but how do the people get to the other sub pages. i just dont get it
