Pages in admin are not sorted correctly under parent pages

In my admin, I had all the parent & child pages sorted correctly in order so It’s easy for me to find the pages I’m looking for to edit/update.

I added a new page last night, and the pages sorting in admin now are all over the place, sorted incorrectly and all showing “-” before the name page.

I checked each page separetly, and the child to parent sorting is active, however nothing is changing in the admin side sorting. Please help

  • Hey there, I’m taking a look at this for you. Two questions for now:

    • Have the child pages shown up properly for you in the past, and they just stopped?
    • Do you see the same issue in the classic dashboard view?

    Thank you in advance!

Yes child pages were always fine until now. In classic seems correct.

  • Ahah: I had to ask around, and found out the page hierarchy only shows in that view with up to 50 pages. After that, you’ll see the dash to indicate it’s a child page, but you won’t see nesting anymore. You just recently surpassed 50 pages. I understand it’s a performance trade-off. There’s a feature request to increase that limit, and I can add your vote there if you’d like.

My test site had more than 50 pages before that view existed, so I’d never seen the hierarchal nesting in that view. I got to learn something new today. Thanks! If it’s helpful for you, the classic view has some bulk tools that you might find handy. You can read about those here.

Ah that makes sense after adding that new page! Thank you!

  • You bet — do you want me to add your case to that feature request, or are you okay with using the wp-admin version when viewing your page list?
