Pages not indexing
-
A good number of pages on my site are not being indexed on Google. I don’t know why some pages work and others don’t. I’ve tried contacting Google but have not had much success. I’m not very web-savvy and don’t even know what info to provide here, but any help would be appreciated.

Hi there,
I checked in Google and noticed that Google has indexed sekenbanashi.wordpress.com quite extensively. You can see here:

Note that if Google was not indexing your site a search like
site:sekenbanashi.wordpress.comwould yield no results.Out of curiosity, what is the search term/terms you are using? Possibly you are not being ranked fo those? Thanks for the additional info!

Thank you for the quick response. Some of my pages like those above are fine. But others are not showing up at all. For example, I happened to be looking on Google for my own page on a film called Every Day a Good Day. I entered, “Sekenbanashi Every Day a Good Day”, but came up with nothing at all. It comes up instantly if I search on my own site, but Google doesn’t recognize it. I’ve had other instances of this in the past. Any idea of why some pages are indexed and others are not? Any help would be appreciated.

A follow-up. Just after I entered the last post, I tried again, and this time it worked, at least for that particular page. I switched my domain to sekenbanashi.blog just yesterday, so maybe Google is still catching up. I will check other pages to see what the situation is.

I’m at a loss why Google indexes some pages and not others. Can someone advise me? I can’t find any common thread in those pages that are not recognized. For instance, I tried Googling “Sekenbanashi Kiku and Isamu” to refer to one page, and it calls up other pages that refer back to the relevant page but not the page itself. It’s as if the original page doesn’t exist. “Sekanbanashi La Cage Aux Folles” comes back with nothing despite several pages on that subject. I have no problem with low rankings, but I would like to be findable on Google in some form. I would appreciate any help.

Hello there,
Happy to help you with this.

Ultimately, we are at the behest of search engines when it comes to crawling and indexing.
It could be the case that, as you say Google is still catching up… or may still need to crawl the site.
If in doubt, it’s possible to get Google to fetch these URLs manually, as detailed here: https://developers.google.com/search/blog/2011/08/submit-urls-to-google-with-fetch-as
Failing that, I’d recommend driving traffic to the site: https://en.support.wordpress.com/getting-more-views-and-traffic/ to help Google find the site also.
I hope this helps.

That’s a big help, thank you very much. I wish there were a Mr. Google that we could write to for help in these cases, but hopefully this will work. I appreciate the advice.

There is a way to do this actually, and that is to register your site directly with Google. This may help them to better show your site in search results:
You can do that by following the steps here: https://wordpress.com/support/site-verification-services/#google-search-console
Also another option is to optimize your writing and publishing habits so the content on your site is more attractive to Google. We have a free course here you can take that will help you to improve your site’s Search Engine Optimization (SEO) so Google will take notice.

Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have any more questions.

That’s a huge help. I will try registering with Google. I didn’t realize that I need to make content more attractive; I thought the search engine would find anything on the Web, regardless of content. I will look into that as well. Many thanks.
