pages seem truncated ?

Hello, i’ve not logged into my blog for quite some time!

but today is actually the anniversary of my Ironman race from 2009.

IronMan Lanzarote – A long day in the sun …

when i look at the entry in my blog for that date -> it stops abruptly at the end of the swum part. there’s loads more (or there ‘was’ loads more that i wrote back then ) that should be displayed – my bike, my run part etc.

what has happened to it ?

Similarly for post = https://yendor.wordpress.com/2020/04/28/letape-du-tour-long-day-long-post/ … truncated for some reason ?

what can i/someone do to have these restored please ?

    WP.com: Yes
    Correct account: Yes

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi! Both of those links seem to display complete posts. I can’t know what you wrote before, but the first one seems to end in the tent rather than at a swim.

Where it’s truncated, are you seeing a “read more” link? If not, could you get a screenshot of what you’re seeing? We’d be happy to take a look.

Here’s how to make a screenshot; more context is better so try not to crop it too tight:
    https://wordpress.com/support/make-a-screenshot/

And you can upload it here on the affected site: https://wordpress.com/media

    Then update us here. Thanks!

    Hello Supernovia,

thanks for looking at my Question.

It does look like a complete post, but its not. There should be lots more text in the post going into detail as to the Cycle and the Run parts of the race. Yes the current viewable post does end at the “tent” which you go to after the swim.

no i don’t see any READ MORE link or button to use.
See file attached to the Site = “yendor_WordPress_23-May-22”.
Hope you can access it ok .

I don’t know if its relevant or not , but my posts would have originally been written and published in 2009. However the ‘date’ in the URL for this page and the other example i gave in my post –> they are both from 28th April 2020 ? Did something happen to the Site then ? What and why ?

As you can see from the screenshot some pages have a 2020 date, whilst the other 2 have the original dates from 2008 in that instance.

  • Hi there, thanks for clarifying that!

I took a look, and both posts match what’s in the editor.

For example, https://yendor.wordpress.com/2020/04/28/ironman-lanzarote-a-long-day-in-the-sun/ and screenshot of the end: https://d.pr/i/gwDkRg

Versus https://yendor.wordpress.com/wp-admin/post.php?post=306&action=edit and screenshot of the end: https://d.pr/i/SCgXTD

I took a look at the post revisions as well https://wordpress.com/support/editors/page-post-revisions/#restoring-revisions and I don’t see any history of missing content after the end of the post as-is now.

Perhaps the post was never finished?

On the date change, it is possible to change a post’s date at any time, unfortunately, that action is not logged.

    Hello
i appreciate the efforts and time so far on this thread from yester-year!!

ooooo the post was finished alright. i did have a few viewers/readers who would have expected and demanded to hear how it went in the end.

Its not an isolated truncated post – the 2nd post mentioned at the top of this Thread is also truncated . That stops early in the day too before we even get to the start line . Maybe its something in the title ;-) ” … long post …”.

    * Is there any real old backups taken of Posts ? anything i could perhaps restore ?when i look in the older revisions of the posts there’s nothing there to see either..

    Keep well
    rJ

  • Hi there,

I’m afraid if those posts ever contained more content, that’s gone now.

The revisions you see in the editor for https://yendor.wordpress.com/2020/04/28/ironman-lanzarote-a-long-day-in-the-sun/ are what we have, and I don’t see any revisions at all for https://yendor.wordpress.com/2020/04/28/letape-du-tour-long-day-long-post/, which would indicate that post hasn’t been modified at all since it was published.

I did take a look at your site logs, and see two other posts were deleted on your site, only a couple of minutes after these two were published, so I’m thinking you might have had two versions of the posts, and accidentally deleted the wrong one.

A possible way this could have happened is if you’d been using the mobile app to write your posts. With the mobile app, drafts/changes are stored locally on the device, and only synced to the web once you publish/exit the app, provided you have an internet connection at the time. If you had the complete version stored locally on your phone, published the incomplete version on the web before it could sync, and then deleted the local copy on your phone, that could explain this.

But regardless of how it happened, I’m afraid there’s no way to restore that content – it doesn’t look like it ever made it onto our servers, and even if it had, we no longer have any backups for your site going back that far.

I also checked the Internet Archive at https://web.archive.org/web/2019*/https://yendor.wordpress.com/ in case they had a cached version of those posts, but they don’t have any content from your site archived either.

Sorry we couldn’t be of more help in this case.

    OK thanks for checking kokkieh

I don’t think i did use my mobile app to write those posts – it was 13-14 years ago.

As far as i remember i’ve never had WordPress on my smartphone. given the length of these posts it would only be practical to be done on the desktop browser.
