Pages, Subpages, and links to them

I’m currently using the theme Contempt 1.0. I’m wondering if there’s a way to prevent a page from appearing in the pagebar that is right below the header. I’d like to link to them from other pages, but I don’t want that navbar being too cluttered.

Okay, then: is there a theme that has the Pages bar and yet allows me to select which ones appear there? (or do you have any other suggestions for how to work around this given the fact that I can’t edit the themes?)

Some of the themes don’t show a page bar. I would find one that doesn’t and then instead of using the page widget, use a text widget and just add in the Pages that you want visable. (Easiest method to do that would be to first add it the Pages widget, get the html out of the page source, remove those pages your don’t want visable, and add that into a text widget.)
The only other thing I can think of is Password Protecting your Pages and only giving the Password to those who you want to have it. There would still be a link though.

Okay, thanks. The text widget solution sounds like it’s closest to what I’m going for: a navbar that allows for easy navigation of top level pages. (I find it a bit sad that such a navbar can’t be horizontal under the header, but this compromise works–the navbar will just be on the side instead of at the top). Thanks again.

Widget support is fairly new. Tricks like this will start coming out once theme developers start getting used to them.
I’m pushing for a widget in the footer myself for text links and the like. :)

hey so far i’ve used very few themes on wordpress, but Andreas09 and Regulus are two of them. On these thmees, if u set a page as subpage, it dosent show in the NavBar. in reulus the subpaes show up on the sidebar of the main page while in andreas09 until and unless u paste the link, they dont show up anywhere.

I use Regulus. It has a nice page bar under the header which shows only parent pages are shown, so that could be your solution.
I have another question, which I hope anyone in here can answer:
Is it possible to control the number of pages child levels shown in the pages sidebar widget?
I have a pages widget in the sidebar which shows the page parents and ordered under them, the subpages. Very nice, regarding the more artistic pages, as I want people who are reading my blog, to find them.
However … some sub-pages do not fit the context so I would like to link to them only from within their parent pages and not show them in the sidebar. Is that possible?

I’m sorry to say that this listing of sub-pages in the sidebar is hard-coded into the Regulus theme and cannot be changed.

Yet I found a way…
I simply remove the page title from the title area of the sub page I do not want to appear in the sidebar, and write the title in the page’s content area instead.
… problem solved, it is invisible in the sidebar.
Of course, then the page does not have a name when I want to edit it, but as every pages has its own unique number that is not a big issue.

How about writing a Page and Saving it, but not actualy choosing the Publish option. And then from another page link to this “un-publised” page ????

I’ve three pages and each page have 2 subpages inside. I wonder how to show the list of my subpages in the page everytime each pages opened?

This must be theme dependent because the MistyLook theme is coded to display all sub-pages on the Parent pages.
