Pages vs Posts
-
Hello, I am new to wordpress and I find this very frustrating so please forgive my ignorance. I simply need to know if I can do what I want to do, and If I can, “How do I do it?”
Here’s my problem.
1) I think I’m using theme Twenty Twelve (or something like that).
2) I write a lot of articles on legal issues that I want to put on my blog.
3) I have the “Home” (static) page set up as my “About Pro Se Foreclosure” This is basically a disclaimer page. It’s an absolute must that this information be on the landing page when people come to my blog.
4) If I click “new post” it replaces the vital disclaimer on my front page.
5) If I create a new page 1) it is stored in alphabetical order not chronological order as I would like.
6) I have created so many pages it is confusing to my readers where to go to get my latest article. The list of pages is getting very crowded. and nobody can tell which is my latest article. Here’s what I want to do. Can I do it, and if so, HOW?
1) I would like to create a single page titled “Articles”
2) When someone clicks on the Articles page I would like for my readers to see only the title of my latest articles in chronological progression.
3) I would like for my readers to be able to scroll through the list of article titles and click on the title they would like to read, and be sent to the article itself.(I hope that wasn’t too confusing.)
Can I do that?
Thank you for whatever help you can provide,
Steve

What you want is simple. You want a Static Front Page with your disclaimer on it. You want to designate another name for where your blog posts go, and you want to make those Articles blog posts. In order to make ONLY the title appear on the main page (which will greatly reduce your readership, btw, you really should allow a snippet of text and most new themes do this automatically) is a bit tricky though. Are you entirely sure you literally want to do just that? Because that, basically, is an Archive page. Then you use a custom menu to hide the real blog so everyone has to go to the Archive page. And every additional clickthrough costs you 85% of interested parties. They just click away.

Well, no I’m not entirely sure I literally want to do just that. That’s just what I pictured in my mind. Your suggestion seems to be very close to what I want and I surely do not want to reduce my readership.
What you have suggested is what I’ve been trying to do since last night with no success. I’ll keep trying and who knows, I may accidentally wind up with something palatable.
Thank you for your kind and timely response. I thought it would take a week to respond.

Not at all. Go to the Settings->Reading page and select one of your pre-existing pages as the start page. See what happens. If nothing is visible, it’s probably that you have one of those funky new themes that’s too complex for me. Take a stroll through the Themes Forum and look for threads on your theme if that’s the case; you won’t be the only one with problems.
