Pages vs Posts
-
I want to have my posts categorized under the header menu options. For example: if I have a “makeup” option on the menu, I want visitors to be able to click on it and be directed to all my posts in my “makeup” category. How do I accomplish this?

Please read this carefully http://wpbtips.wordpress.com/2010/06/30/posts-on-pages/ There are many common errors, misunderstandings and misconceptions when creating custom menus and there are some tweaks you can use to improve your custom menu as well. http://wpbtips.wordpress.com/2011/12/19/custom-menus/
By default the front page of the blog is the post that displays all posts in your blog in reverse chronological order with the most recent post on top. Though there is only one dynamic page in a blog for posts (not pages) http://en.support.wordpress.com/post-vs-page/ and we cannot post to more than that one page, we can create the appearance that we have posted to more than one page.
Among the most common misconceptions is that bloggers fail to understand is
(1) there is only one page we can post to in any blog and
(2) the static pages http://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/ they create do not automatically update. Please read this support doc as Pages and posts http://en.support.wordpress.com/post-vs-page/ are not the same.
Please also read this support doc as Pages (static) https://en.support.wordpress.com/pages/ and category pages (dynamic) https://en.support.wordpress.com/category-pages/ are not the same.
Only the dynamic pages like Categories, Tags and Archives created by the software when we publish a post we that we have assigned Categories and Tags to will update automatically update. https://en.support.wordpress.com/category-pages/
We organize posts by assigning categories to them. You can create a custom menu and add the dynamic categories pages into the custom menu.

I love that you posted a really clear example! It’s very simple to create a “makeup” category menu item if you are using a custom menu. All you have to do is select “Categories” on the left before you select the menu item and add it.
In your case, it looks like you have created a few custom menus, but they are not assigned to any locations yet so the default pages list is being used for now. So there’s some additional work to do.
I would suggest starting over with a new custom menu to try it out. Here are some steps that you can try:
1. Go to https://cookingwithknives.wordpress.com/wp-admin/nav-menus.php and click the “create new menu” link at the top, name it something like “main menu” and click the “Save Menu” button
2. On the left, click the checkbox next to all of the pages you want to add and click the “Add to Menu” button
3. On the left, this time click “Categories,” then either use the “View All” tab or the “Search” tab to find the category you want to add, select the one you want and click the “Add to Menu” button
4. Now that you have added several menu items, you should be able to drag-and-drop to rearrange them. Put them into the order you want and click “Save Menu” when you’re done. Note that you can drag items a little to the right to make them submenus.
5. Last step! Check the box that says “Primary Menu” at the bottom of your custom menu and click the “Save Menu” button.
Check the front page at that point and make sure it looks how you want. If you run into any trouble with it, let me know and I’ll help you get everything sorted out.

No worries at all. Once you get the basics worked out, you will be a pro!
If you want to slow down and take the menu setup step by step, let me know. I noticed you haven’t made any new menu changes at https://cookingwithknives.wordpress.com/wp-admin/nav-menus.php yet.
