pages vs posts and archives

Want to have one page (called trappings) that leads to posts and it’s not working.
Also, I want to make it so instead of seeing archive in stats I can see the story they clicked on. How can make these changes?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi!

When I click on your menu item titled “Trappings – The Rabbit Hole,” I’m shown all posts that are assigned to the Trappings category as shown here:

Is this working how you would like it to?

Also, I want to make it so instead of seeing archive in stats I can see the story they clicked on.

I’m not quite sure what you’re referring to here. On your stats page linked here, you should see all of the individual posts and pages your visitors have been to under “Top Posts and Pages”:

    https://wordpress.com/my-stats/?unit=1&blog=67653083

Is that what you were looking for?

For the first question about my Trappings category: I’m asking how do I create it so there is a parent page that introduces all the posts within in that category.

For the stats question: It shows some names of stories and then it shows home page/ archives. I’d like to know what stories readers are looking at there. Or, does that just mean they scroll on the home page and don’t click on any stories?

Just so we’re on the same page, the issue with your current page (here) is that you can’t enter any intro text. Is that correct? You would like a space to type an intro and then a list of all of your posts.

Whenever you see the term “Home page/archives” in your stats, it means that the reader just viewed your main homepage at wildemerwriter.com. They didn’t visit any particular story. If they click on a story to read, you will see a view listed under that particular story as well. Does that help to clarify?

    Archives: OK. Thank you.
Post intro: Yes; an intro into the section would be perfect.

Got it! The only way to do that would be to follow these steps:

    1. Create a new page titled “Trappings.” Please note, this will need to be a new page, not a new post.
    2. Enter your intro into the content area for the page
    3. Below the intro, put the following code:

      [display-posts category="trappings"]

    4. Publish the page

At this point, when you view the page, you should see a list of all of your posts in the Trappings category. We’re using something called the Display Post shortcode, which you can read more about here:

    Display Posts Shortcode

Now that we have the intro and the list of posts, we’ll need to add it to your menu so others can find the page. You can do that here:

Can you give those steps a try and let me know if you run into trouble?

I think it all works. Thank you.
