Pages won't appear when I click on tags
-
Hi!
I just created new tags, my first ones, to help people searching and finding topics on my website. I – of course – also added them to the pages I wanted them to be linking to. The tags show up on the website, great! However, whenever I click on one of the tags I created, it brings me to the Nothing Found page. “It seems we can’t find what you’re looking for. Perhaps searching can help.” and yada yada. How is that so? I double checked to make sure and the tags are indeed linked in the pages I want them to lead to. What could cause that? The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Staff can view private blog content but Volunteers cannot and we do not ask for access. I will type modlook into the sidebar tags on this thread for a Staff follow-up. How do I get a Moderator/Staff reply for my question? https://en.support.wordpress.com/getting-help-in-the-forums/#how-do-i-get-a-moderatorstaff-reply-for-my-question Also subscribe to this thread so you are notified when they respond and be patient while waiting as it is a weekend. To subscribe look in the sidebar of this thread, find the subscribe to topics link and click it.

Oh yes, that website is private for now – I’m just trying out stuff/creating content for a new version of another website. Would you be able to do something/find any lead on what the issue could be if I made it public momentarily? Thanks!

Hello,
whenever I click on one of the tags I created, it brings me to the Nothing Found page. “It seems we can’t find what you’re looking for.
The Tag Cloud Widget is designed to show a list of all the tags you’ve assigned to posts. Tags are normally used as a way to group related posts together:
You have added tags to pages, which are also being displayed in the widget. The widget is trying to display posts with tags like Birkenstock but there aren’t any posts (only pages).
I just created new tags, my first ones, to help people searching and finding topics on my website.
If you want pages to be more searchable, you could consider adding a Search widget to your sidebar instead:

Thanks for your answer!
For the post vs page difference, that’s what I first assumed, but since the options to add tags was displayed when creating or editing any page I thought it meant that it worked for pages too! Basically that means it isn’t the case?
And also yes, I already have the search widget in my bottom footer – but then it just displays every single page/post/testimony that ever mentioned the word searched for rather “messily”, if that makes sense. I would like to be able to organize my content and the search for it in a way that is more intuitive (well, for a human) and thematically coherent that what the search widget currently allows me to do. The only other solution I assume if the tags won’t work is categories? Is there anything else? Because I also already use categories for larger topics, but I was hoping tags would help me to allow my customers to search more precise themes or rubrics.
Or, last question, if I put tags on posts too, will it also display the pages I also previously linked to it when I click on a tag? Or only the posts finally? Thanks again!

Hello,

Yes, the problem here is the widget rather than the theme itself. The widget only display posts, not pages. We’re aware of this issue in themes that support tags on pages.
The good new is I’ve had an idea for a workaround. Instead of using the Tag Cloud Widget, we can use the Text Widget to create tag links. The tag links will need to be added to the widget manually — they won’t automatically appear like they do in the Tags widget.
If you want to give it a try, here are the steps:
1. Add the Text Widget to your sidebar:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/text-widget/
2. Copy and paste all code in this box below, into the widget:
<ul> <li><a href="https://testtest618.wordpress.com/?s=&post_type=page&tag=birkenstock ">Birkenstock</a></li> <li><a href="https://testtest618.wordpress.com/?s=&post_type=page&tag=equipeot ">EquipeOT</a></li> </ul>This code creates a bullet list of links to all content with that tag. If you are happy with the way it works I can show you how to add more links.
You can continue to use the Category Cloud widget for your posts.
Let me know your thoughts.
