Pages:Number, Position & Family Relationships
-
I created ten pages for my blog. I tested a number of presentation themes. All of them displayed links to the first three additional pages. Is three the maximum amount of pages that WP.com can handle.
I also wanted to try to display page references on the sidebar rather than on top of the initial page. Is it possible to do this?
Lastly in another forum topic, there was mention of a parent page with child pages. I looked at the dashboard. You can do categories and subcategories however I didn’t find anything about parent pages and child pages.
So it seems that:
1. There can be only three additional pages on a blog
2. References are displayed on the top and not on the sidebar
3. The concept of a parent page and child pages does not really apply.or am I missing something.
Thanks
Gary,

Have you looked at the themes reviews. They contain this kind of information for each wordpress.com theme http://engtech.wordpress.com/tools/wordpress/wordpress-theme-reviews/
(1)I have seen blogs with more than 3 pages and in fact some are my own.
(2) I do not know what you mean by “references”. Some themes display trackbacks following the title perhpas this is what you mean.
(3) This isn’t the case. I have used the regulus theme and had multiple pages and sub-pages. (The pages displayed as tabs and the sub-pages displayed in the sidebar).
The answers to your questions are found in the theme reviews at the link I posted above for you so I’ll leave it to you to locate them. Happy blogging :) -

-I looked at engtech’s blog. He is really into the nitty gritty. I think my questions are at a more nascent level.

-By”references”, I meant the text you click on to reach a given page. I have seem multiple references following the title. I havn’t seen an example of multiple links to other pages on the sidebar.
-On engtech’s blog, secondary pages contain posts. The content of these pages isn’t static. I would like to be able to do this. Can you point me in the right direction.
(3) This isn’t the case. I have used the regulus theme and had multiple pages and sub-pages. (The pages displayed as tabs and the sub-pages displayed in the sidebar).
-Is there a URL which would illustrate the tab – sub-pages displayed on the sidebar in the fashion you describe?

-I havn’t made much progress yet. But I remain happy

@jafferyme
Let’s see if this helps …Not sure which theame restricted to only three pages. I have ‘Connections’ and currently have 4 pages. I have had more before, so I know there is not such limit on the pages to be displyed. But this again could be Theame dependent (this is where engtech Theame review could help u!!)
Reference (the page title as u referred) might be displayed on top or sidebar or sometimes not at all. This is totally dependent on the theame ur using
(btb pages cannot contain Posts, they are static, may be the content was manually copied in the eg on Engtech’s blog that u were looking)The concept of the Parent Child Pages can be achieved by the “Page Parent” – one of the rectangle options boxes (below Page Password) present in the side when u are in the “Create New Page” Screen
