Pagination in twenty seventeen theme
-
I have added twenty seventeen theme to my site beginnersclubs.wordpress.com, while checking preview I could see that pagination is activated and page numbers are shown, but once I activate it is no more there, i can only see ‘Older posts’ instead of page number at the bottom. What’s wrong here, if its showing in preview why not in actual blog? Did i missed something or overwritten it somewhere. Please help
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi,
It looks like https://beginnersclubs.wordpress.com/ is set to display three posts per page on the blog page and archives page. Did you change this setting at some point? The posts per page setting may be changed at either of the following locations:
- 1. My Site(s) > Settings > Writings > Content types > Blog Posts
- 2. WP Admin dashboard > Settings > Reading
See the following relevant support pages:
- Writing Settings — especially the Content Types section
- Reading Settings (WP Admin)

Presently, each time you click the “Older Posts” button on the blog page or an archives page, three additional posts are added to the bottom of the page. If you scroll down after clicking “Older Posts,” you’ll find the added posts, and the page number will change with each additional three posts. Change the posts per page setting, and the number of posts added for each click of “Older Posts” will be changed accordingly.

That’s not the actual problem.
I am fine with 3 posts per page or any number for that matter but I don’t want “Older posts” button to be displayed at bottom.
Instead I want page number with arrow marks. -
Thanks for the clarification.

The page number will change in the address bar as you scroll past each third post, but I don’t know how you could have seen page numbers instead of the “Older Posts” button. Perhaps another theme works that way. Have you changed the theme recently?
As far as I know, to change even the wording of the “Older Posts” button would require CSS customization. See for example the forum topics Change “older posts” link wording and Change wording of “older posts” and “newer posts”.
WordPress.com is evolving all the time and there might be a setting on Twenty Seventeen that allows the wording of that button to be changed, or provides a paginated option as you suggest, but I haven’t found such a setting. You may add a “modlook” tag to the sidebar at right here to call for staff attention.
