Paid content – customers getting login password

I have a paid content part to my webpage. When a new user signs up, what is the best process for them to get their password to login to the paid content? They submit their email when they pay (which is their username), but don’t immediately get a password.

The only way I see how customers can retrieve their password is to go to the login, input their email as the username and WordPress will email them a link to their account information. Once in your account, they go to their profile and under Security they can create a password. That seems like a lot to do and doesn’t make it easy for someone paying for content.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi there,

For security reasons, our built-in memberships options, provided via the Paid Content block, are tied to a [WordPress.com](http://WordPress.com) user account. This setup presents several advantages:

    • It enables us to process payments through our secure portal, thereby eliminating your need to handle credit card information.
    • It bolsters content security as there isn’t any password that could be leaked or shared irresponsibly, an inherent risk when sensitive data is transmitted through email.
    • It ensures that only actual subscribers can view your paid content since the content is accessible only by logging into their secure WordPress.com account.

For subscribers, this process is straightforward. After creating an account, their login credentials serve as their “password,” allowing direct site access without requiring additional information to view the paid content. Furthermore, since the system remembers their logins across sessions, they don’t need to perform any additional steps to view site content during subsequent visits. They should just see the paid content (as if for them it is unlocked) anytime they view your site.

That seems like a lot to do and doesn’t make it easy for someone paying for content.

We don’t have a way to opt out of the account creation process, but one option you can consider here (instead of using our built in integration) is to install a 3rd party “memberships” plugin to your site, which will give granular control over how you offer paid content on your site including the ability to define the process by which subscribers gain access to content, such as a password. There are a lot of options to consider as you can see here:

Feel free to tell us more about your project, the kind of site you are trying to set up, or any specific functionality paid content functionality you plan on needing! We’re happy to take a closer look and if our built in solution or a 3rd party option is the best fit for your needs. Thanks!
