paid for domain name

  I’ve just paid to change my domain.
  From sewingplums.wordpress.com to sewingplums.com
  And I’ve said I want the new domain as my primary domain.

  I thought this meant that any time sewingplums.wordpress.com is entered, it defaults to sewingplums.com.
  But instead, every time I enter sewingplums.com, it defaults to sewingplums.wordpress.com

  So there doesn’t seem any point in paying for the domain. . .

  Have I misunderstood something.
