Paid for Domain name registration but stuck with wordpress.com on my site’s URL
-
I paid $22 today for a .blog domain annual registration package but my website still shows the wordpress.com in the URL (eastafricagenes.wordpress.com).
I was also charged another $22 for basically the same .blog domain (east-africa-genes.blog) yet my URL is still showing the same (eastafricagenes.wordpress.com)
Also, in February, I was required to renew my subscription by paying $22, so in total, I’ve paid $66 this year yet I can’t get a .blog domain? This billing system is quite suspicious!!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Good morning –
Thanks for getting in touch. I’m happy to map out what is going on and hopefully eliminate the confusion.
Looking at the account I can see that 2 different .blog domains have been registered. One of those domains was also renewed. That is the $66 total which you’ve inquired about. Those domains are east-africa-genes.blog and eastafricagenes.blog. Neither of these domains are set up on a hosting plan, though.
The hosting plan is what displays your .blog domain in the browser for folks. Is the intention for both of these domains to load the same site? If so, which domain do you want to show in the browser bar?
All of the plan options are shown at https://wordpress.com/pricing/ and they include your domain registration for the first year. I’m happy to email you a manual payment form that will deduct the $44 in domains you’ve already paid for from the plan cost. For example, if you decide to go with the premium plan for this project, I can email you a payment form that is for the plan amount minus the $44 you’ve already paid us. Take a look here: https://wordpress.com/pricing/Looking forward to learning more about your goals for this project!

My intention is to keep just one domain, eastafricagenes.blog which is under the freelancer package. I don’t want the other address with hyphens (east-africa-genes.blog)
-
I also thought that once I selected the freelance package back in 2020, I wouldn’t have to renew it again after I pay my annual registration and hosting ($48). Why do I have to select it again?
I plan to continue with the freelance package of $48 annualy. Send me the form with the deducted $44

I got it.
First, I have refunded you the $22 for the east-africa-genes.blog registration as you no longer want that and we were with in the tight refund window for domain registrations.
It could take up to ten days for you to see that on your account. If there’s a delay, inquire with your bank or card provider and ask them how this should appear on your statement. Sometimes they don’t actually process it as refund, and use a reversal instead. Each place is a bit different so that’s why we suggest following up with them about any delays.
Since that was refundable I’ll be taking $22 off your purchase price for the hosting plan, rather than $44. It all works out the same but I wanted you to know what you’re looking at on the form.
Second, I’ve sent that form via email. You can pay for the plan through that secure form.
Third, the hosting plan has been added to your account already and you’ll see it if you click on My Sites – Upgrades.
Let us know if you need anything else. Hope you’ve had a nice weekend!
