paid for my domain. how do i register it? (duh help!)

  • Unknown's avatar

After paying the 25.00, a prompt followed asking me to write an address. ..uhm, choose an http thingy and then after I wrote my desired name in there, I was asked to pay for it. I don’t get it.

Was that a second domain address offer? Is mine already there? How do I know?
tessf.com already has been taken, I think. So I chose tessilustudio.com. And then it asked me to pay again?
    Help!
    Am I a domain now?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

tessf.com was registered with WordPress.COM today so you might have done things at least mostly correctly.

    http://www.dnsstuff.com/tools/whois/?tool_id=66&token=&toolhandler_redirect=0&ip=tessf.com

Did you also go through the domain mapping steps? The $ 25 should give you a domain name – domain mapping and privacy option for your personal contact details.

Too early for me to figure out where to look in your dashboard other than Dashboard >> Store >> Domain

PS – your site is slow to load – that can be a real turn off to visitors – think about using the More Tag to speed up the load times

Thank you soooo much for explaining. Not sure if I understand everything you’re saying but I’ll re-read a few times. :)

If you don’t mind one more question, I just tried inserting the more tag into a published post. ..but it’s not showing on the revision on my blog.

I was working from Visual mode, and pressed the More tab up top. ..didn’t write anything in the box though.

Is it not possible to add the more tag after a post has been published?

Also I just tried to find my purchase in the store, but I’m just seeing where I can buy one. I guess I thought buying the domain would mean I could register it with Google whoozits. (I am soooo confused with all the things one need do to be found here. :) )

    @tessf
The more tag creates an excerpt on the front page and only when that post is on the front page. As more posts are published posts that have the more tag in them move back and they are not longer on the front page of the blog so there is no excerpt displayed. The whole posts display on their own pages.

Oh, thanks so much. I will go and see if it works on my latest post. I really want to figure this out. :)

Hmmm now I’m not seeing it when I add it to the latest post. I should maybe add language to that empty box before the word “more” ?

Again I apologize for being so slow to figure this out. :)

I think the purchase went through – just too early for me to point you in the direction of completing the domain mapping to give you the shorter name.

http://tessf.com ends up on your http://tessf.wordpress.com/ blog but with the WordPress.COM name – so probably you did not do the last step setting tessf.com as the primary domain name.

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/domain-mapping/register-domain/

To activate your new domain, select the button next to the one you wish to activate and click Update Primary Domain. Your blog will be accessible from both of these domains; the Primary Domain is what actually appears as your domain within the address bar of web browsers. If you do not see your blog at the new domain immediately, please allow some time for the DNS changes to propagate.

You have done the more tag correctly on your top Post – it has the more tag in it –

On the Mend: New Work, New Prints. . .Lucy, You Got Some Splainin To Do!

This Post has the more tag done correctly when you look at the Post on the front page / main page of your blog.
