Paid for the wrong site name

  • Unknown's avatar

Hi, I just put my credit card in to register a domain that I own http://www.sportsciencefun.com but instead it upgraded sportsciencefunblog.wordpress.com.

    Can you please help?

Also I’d like to cancel sportsciencefunblog.wordpress or direct everything to my regular site – so it doesn’t get confusing.

    Thanks :)

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Howdy,

It appears that your existing site is powered by WordPress.org (the difference WordPress.com and WordPress.org).

The upgrades on WordPress.com are for sites hosted on WordPress.com, with the exception of VideoPress, which can be used on both types (and any space upgrades being used for VideoPress, though still requires a WordPress.com site to manage the upgrade.

What were you wanting to do with the upgrade?

Please let me know if you have any questions. I’m happy to help sort all of this out for you. :-)

    Cheers!

Thanks so much. So I want to build my site http://www.SportScienceFun.com on WordPress. It is hosted on SiteGround.

Previously I had signed up for the free site so I got confused.

To clarify: I have (1) http://www.SportScienceFun.com and (2) sportsciencefunblog.wordpress.com. I am trying to get #1 my regular name to be my web site/blog name.

In the Account options: I just changed the Web site name in the Account
Is that right? Please tell me what else I need to do?

Really appreciate and need help to finish this. It took over 6 days for 1 & 1 to change the DNS settings to SiteGround, so I’m behind. Need to start building my site tonight.

    Thanks!

  • Hi again,

First, what options with the upgrade are you looking to use? Since your site isn’t hosted on WordPress.com, you may not need it.

Second, for the site currently at http://sportsciencefun.com , you do not manage that via WordPress.com. You can login to your WordPress installation at http://www.sportsciencefun.com/wp-admin . It will be a different login than your WordPress.com account used to post here since your site is it’s own install unrelated to WordPress.com.

Since I understand that you only want the one site, the sportsciencefunblog.wordpress.com isn’t needed (except if you need to use something from the upgrade), correct?

Thanks! I want to make sure we’re on the same page before getting too far ahead of ourselves.

    Hi, Ok now I’m understanding.

    1) I don’t need an upgrade. Can you please tell me how I stop the charge? Keep looking on the site to try to find it.

    2) WordPress installation: Got it, thank you

    3) sportsciencefunblog.wordpress.com: I would like to hold on to the name, because it’s mine. Is it possible to link it to my regular Blog is that possible?

    Cheers!

  • I refunded the transaction for you, which should appear on your card in the next couple of days.

You can keep your other site (sportsciencefunblog.wordpress.com) as long as you want. To link to your regular site, you can either make a post on the site asking folks to click through to your actual site or purchase our Site Redirect upgrade ($13/year) which automatically takes anyone visiting http://sportsciencefunblog.wordpress.com/ to the site of your choice.

Details about that can be found at http://store.wordpress.com/premium-upgrades/redirect/

    Cheers!
