Paid to get a domain without wordpress in the url, website down
-
Hi, sorry. So I’m making a portfolio and wanted a clean url. This is my first time purchasing site benefits from wordpress and wanted myname.com but the site gave me mynamedotcom.wordpress.com arguably because I hadn’t paid yet. So I hunted down where to pay, paid, confirmed I wanted nicolewilk.com and now the site has been down for 24 hours – and I did empty my cache, and updated my primary domain via the radio button, .
I paid $13 which I suppose is a subdomain? I’m not sure if I got the right thing but it was the option that said it would give me the url nicolewilk.com instead of nicolewilkdotcom.wordpress.com
Could you tell me if I’m suppose to wait longer, missed a step, or bought the wrong thing for my objective? I don’t need a business site, just a portfolio I can put on business cards and direct people to when I apply for jobs.
Thank you

Hi Nicole,
You purchased the Domain Mapping upgrade, but it appears nicolewilk.com is actually unregistered according to a public search. Domain mapping is meant to be used when a domain was purchased through another registrar but needs to be pointed to WordPress.com
You’ll need to register the domain name like new. To clear things up I’ve removed the domain mapping upgrade and added 13 credits to your account.
To get going with nicolewilk.com, visit your Dashboard > Store > My Domains page and click “Register a New Domain Name.”
Follow the instructions here:
Domain registration costs a few dollars more than domain mapping, but the $13 you’ve already spent will be credited to this purchase.
Let me know if you hit any snags registering the new domain.
Best,
