Paid Upgrade and Domains – a Newby

I am a Newbie, I admit it. I am very confused.
A while back I paid the $10 for the domain upgrade. I guess I do not understand how it works, even after reading about it. I have my blog with WordPress attached to the name. I thought paying the $10 would remove the WordPress (or allow me to) and allow me to have just the core name???? Using the same site….
I am hosted at WordPress, if I remove the WordPress do I need to host elsewhere?
I want to remove the WordPress, and have the site in my own core name. Whats steps do I have to take?

The $10 is for domain mapping. It allows you to point your wordpress.com blog to another URL that you already own.
If you don’t already own the domain you want to use then you’ll need to register that too. You can do it via wordpress.com (I think it’s $15, but you can check) or any other domain register.
