Paid upgrade – any disadvantages?

Hi!
We would like to upgrade, mainly to get rid of the advertisements and maybe later we will look into what opportunities we could use.
If we upgrade will the site remain as it is or will there be any changes in any way that is not initiated by us??
We would like the site to remain exactly as it is, just without advertisements, for now and would like to confirm that is the case.Best wishes Maria

The look of your site won’t change unless you want it to. Most people upgrade to the Personal plan to get a custom domain (as well as no ads). Some prefer the Premium plan for the access to custom CSS and a greater variety of themes.

Your site will remain as it is even after the upgrade. You will be getting more features as per the plan you are upgrading to. For example custom domain name( url without wordpress.com in it), email & live chat support, extra storage and many more useful features.
