Paid wordpress theme

  I have a blog hosted with wordpress. My questions is if I purchase a new wordpress theme designed by third party, am I able to upload this new theme to wordpress and replace the old free theme? If so, what steps involved to upload the new theme?

  No, the only themes available for wordpress.com blogs are those in your dashboard at Presentation. Sorry it’s not the answer you hoped for. :(

  So does that mean if I want to start to use a new theme (not one of dashboard themes), I have to move my blog to a different hosting company?

  Yes, exactly. You’d have to self host your blog and all the information about that is at http://wordpress.org

  Or you could purchase the CSS upgrade and get someone to custom-edit a theme for you.
