Paragraph Feature

Hi, I was wondering whether if the tab key could be used to shift the beginning of the paragraphs when writing a post. I am also wondering if one could shift entire paragraphs slightly to the right to create a hierarchy. Finally, I was wondering if there is an easy way that I could enter emdashes using my laptop that does not have a numeric key, which prevents me from using the shortcut code and I have to open a new tab to search for emdash and use copy and paste. I do not use Microsoft word and do not have any software on my laptop that automatically converts two endashes into an emdash. Thank you!

  • Hello there,

    Many thanks for reaching out.

Just to check – do you mean to indent the start of a post?

With regards to the emdash – what operating system are you using exactly?

    Many thanks in advance.

    Hi!

Yes, I meant indenting, and my laptop runs with windows 10.

    Thanks!

  • Hi there,

There is not an option to indent the first line of a paragraph, so you may need to add this spacing manually (the spacebar on your keyboard) to add your indent that way.

Another option my may consider is to set your paragraph to have a “drop cap” instead.

You can see how that is done in the video here: https://d.pr/v/7DSLbA

Not the same as an indented line, but it is a nice way to start a longer passage of text.

These options have not been added to the block editor quite yet (we’re working on it) but you can find them by entering your paragraph using the “classic block” instead

This is difficult to explain in words, so I again recorded a quick video to show you how to indent a paragraph in the classic block, as well as how to find the em dash character.
