paragraph formatting
-
formatting on post switches from “paragraph” to “forma”t when saving draft or publishing post. I am importing from a word document. I get no breaks between paragraphs. I tried doing it manually in HTML but I don’t know enough code.

It looks to me like each line of that poem is a paragraph.
<p>If love is the language of poets</p> <p>Rumi, Kabir, Sappho</p> <p>then to believe in the body is</p> <p>to hold an instrument and know</p>If you want to remove all those paragraphs, select the text, use the eraser icon to “remove formating” and then you can format the poem as you want.

As Tess says, you do have paragraph breaks, after each line.
And if what you’re looking for isn’t removing some of the existing blank lines but having more than one blank line after certain lines, that’s only possible with html – see here:
Formatting text pt. 1: blank lines, alignment, wrap-around, two columns

You’re welcome. Maybe we can help more if you tell us exactly how you want the whole thing formatted.

great help!
I recopied the whole poem from the original word doc and pasted it on the HTML tab.
It worked.
Thanks.
