Paragraph formatting

Like others my paragraph formatting is fine on draft when when I preview, they have disappeared. I have tried all sorts of fixes that haven’t worked and now my deadline is getting close and am tearing my hair out. Also, I have no idea which WordPress version I am using or whether it’s classic or not. Everything seems so hard to find on this site – please make it easier before I go nuts.

  • Hi there,

What post do you need help with, please? I see two draft posts on your site, but both appear fine to me when I preview them.

If you’ve been creating these drafts at My Site ->Blog Posts you’re using the regular editor, but I also see you have the new Gutenberg editor that’s currently in testing activated on your site. You’ll only be using that editor if you create or edit your posts from the WP-Admin page at https://dobdotcom.wordpress.com/wp-admin/, and there’s also a notice at the top of that page that will allow you to deactivate the Gutenberg editor for now.

I am having the same problem. For example see https://dnasleuth.wordpress.com/2018/10/01/i-like-ahnentafels/. I have tried to edit it in Chrome and in Firefox, but while it looks fine in Preview mode, I do not get the blank line between paragraphs that I expect and always got in previous posts, using the same steps.

Did you by any chance copy the content of that post from somewhere else? Looking at your post in the HTML view of the editor I’m seeing a lot of unnecessary HTML that wouldn’t have been added by our editor. Code like that are usually copied in when you copy from another website or a word processor.

The easiest way to clean that up is to strip out all formatting in the entire post, and then go through and add headings, bold text, etc, back where you want them. To do that, highlight the entire post in the visual editor, and click the Clear Formatting button.

Or at the very least, you’ll need to switch to the HTML view and delete all the empty div tags, i.e. the lines that look like this:

    < div dir="ltr" >< /div >
