Paragraph Spacing
-
I would like to widen the spaces between paragraphs. My text content is difficult to material and creating larger breaks between paragraphs will help. When I press the return bar twice, the space doesn’t show on preview, but returns to the default spacing height.
I’d appreciate your help!

Hi Susan,
The Visual Editor is strict about collapsing extra spaces, but you can force it to recognize them. We have some tips on how to do this here:

Hi Eurello,
I’ve seen this. The article is about line breaks and word spacing, not about paragraph spacing. I can’t find anything on this.

Hi Susan – You’ll want to add paragraph spacing in the same way as it suggests to add line breaks. There isn’t any way to universally adjust how many spaces are left between paragraphs – it will always only leave one empty line. But you can force an extra line between them with the Shift+Return trick.

Hi Eurello, I understand and I do the shift-return trick, but the spacing doesn’t hold when I do the maneuver twice, to force an extra paragraph space. On the preview, it reverts back to the default paragraph spacing.

Hi Susan,
Hmm, try switching over to the text editor of your post, and for each extra space you want to add, add the following exactly:
Here’s a screenshot of what this looks like: http://cl.ly/image/1q3q2R0r2f1j
However, be careful not to switch back over to the visual editor before publishing or updating your post, or those spaces will be stripped out. Leave it in the Text editor and update or publish from there.
Let me know how that works!

Help, I have another problem. I just posted and it is not showing up as the large featured image. My older post is. I want the new post to be previewed!

Eurello, I had to make a simple edit on one of men posts, did it from the text screen and saved while in text. Afterwards however, all of the custom spacing vanished. Any other ideas?
Thanks!

Hi Susan – When you edit a post, you’ll most likely need to put the spacing back in before you update.
Another thing that you can do is add some inline CSS. One of our forum volunteers has a good post about how to do this here: http://wpbtips.wordpress.com/2009/06/10/formatting-text-pt-1/

Hi Eurello, I couldn’t understand how to do it. I’ll look it again. I don’t really know CSS. Meanwhile, I placed a dash between paragraphs, colored it white and it served the purpose, but is a clumsy method.

Hi Susan – Check out this article here again, I recently updated it with some tips based on our conversation. If you still have trouble adding the inline CSS, please reply and link me to the post where you’ve tried it, so I can take a look at your Text Editor:

Hi Eurello, thanks, I’ll try it. Do you think there is any downside to my method? It seems as if it may be faster and easier. Thoughts?
-
Hi Susan – No, whatever works for you is fine! That sounds like a creative solution to me. :)
