Paragraph spacing

When I’m composing a new post in the Visual mode, I now have to hit enter twice to get a paragraph space (before, it was only on the first enter that I got a paragraph space).

But when I hit “preview,” I have no spaces between paragraphs at all in the public version (I haven’t published this yet, so there’s nothing for you to see at the moment).

I went back to “edit” and checked the “text” screen. I see <div> </div> where the spaces are called for but this code isn’t producing the required line spacing. I tried forcing a line space with the
</BR> code, but that didn’t do it either.

There are simply no spaces between paragraphs and I can’t publish that way. Could it have something to do with your most recent changes? Please explain and help?

Staff have been upgrading, so I apologize in advance if you have tried what follows and it doesn’t work for you. If that is the case please post again.

Blog editors and word processors are not the same and do not work the same way. The web standard is one blank line only, so you cannot add more blank lines by pressing return repeatedly like you would do with a typewriter or in a word processing application. If you want to learn how to format and space your posts and pages see:
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/writing-and-formatting-poetry/

If you are working in the Visual editor, to get single spacing between paragraphs hold the SHIFT key down and simultaneously click ENTER at the end of the paragraph.

If you are working in the HTML (Text) editor, a single click of ENTER will give you a single-spaced line, and two clicks of ENTER will result in double spaced lines.

P.S. When you create a new post, always make sure the Format tool is set to Paragraph before you start typing. It’s in the Visual editor Row 2 first position “style”. See the illustration here http://en.support.wordpress.com/visual-editor/#row-2 If you forget to do that then edit the post, highlight all in the Visual editor, select Paragraph from the Format tool, switch editor to Text then switch back to Visual and click Update.

Timethief, you are beautiful! I’ve been posting for three years and never knew these basic formatting tricks. New posts must have automatically begun in paragraph mode, because I’ve never had this problem before (no paragraph spacing at all).

Your last paragraph was what worked in getting my text to recognize the paragraph spacing I could see in my editor.

Your shift/enter trick works beautifully in closing up the paragraph space when I want it to (every so often, like in fig captions).

I’ll check out your references as well to see if I can pick up other tips.

Thanks again for your prompt help! I’m delighted. – Sharon/Vinny Grette
