Parent category shows 0 posts..???
-
Hello everyone, I am posting for the first time here in the forum, so hope you’ll excuse my general mistakes..Thanks in advance.
I have been trying to organize my menu and the posts under different and some newly made categories. after having done with this, my category page looks like i’ve done it wrong. i would put in a screenshot but there’s no option for inserting image, so, see if you understand me describing my problem.
i have categorized the posts (from the “all post” page) under the sub-categories one by one…( but didn’t tick for the parent categories, since i thought the parent categories are not pages but to show on menus only; so that one does not get in a parent category homepage like page where the categorized posts are all jumbled but get directly to the sub-categorized items they want to read about.
the category page looks like this:
-Parent category 0 posts
–sub-category 3 posts
–sub-category 6 postsso it looks a little odd to me… shouldn’t the parent category show 9 posts all together by default..? have i done it right..??? if i would have categorized a post for both a sub-category and the parent, then would it create an unnecessary display of a mixed sub-categorized posts..???
Please help, Thanks again.

Hi there.
No, if you want the post to appear in the parent category you have to check both the parent and the sub-category. You can go back and do this from the Posts ->All Posts and clicking on the Quick Edit option. Remember to update every post after adding the category.
Your main feed will still display each post only once, no matter how many categories it has been assigned.
Alternatively you can make the parent page unclickable. Instructions to do that is here: http://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/#creating-static-parent-tabs
(P.S. next time you want to post a screenshot you can use and online service like http://snag.gy/ Then you just paste the URL here.)

The parent category only has a count if you’ve used both the parent and child categories on the post.
