parent child grid templates
-
I am looking for a theme that does away with the vertical drop down menu and enables me to have a parent page with grid feature images that link to the child pages. It’s for a charity site so no money to splash around and I like the twenty thirteen theme apart from this.
-
Try searching themes using the filter featured images.. preview the demo etc.. https://wordpress.com/themes/filter/staff-picks+featured-images/ I thought Gazette looked a little similar to what you describe.
There are many to choose from, although searching for a theme via a filter of what you prefer is the easiest method.
-
Or a ‘Portfolio Style’ Theme.. You can also check the search box for ‘free’ themes.. like at this link
-
If you choose not to use the ‘primary’ menu (which is the one you are referring to) you can with the Twenty Thirteen Theme, this option becomes available in ‘preview’ and ‘customizing’.
-
thanks I will follow those up. I’m a beginner at this so as a famous explorer once said ‘I may be some time’. :)

You can create a custom menu without submenus to achieve this part. Only add top-level menu items, no submenus.

Several free themes that come with a grid-page template are:
Sela
Motif
Edin
Goran

You’re welcome
Here’s an interesting thread on ‘learning wordpress’ here in the forums also and a small excerpt from it >>
The best place to start for answers to your questions is here: the “Learn WordPress” support doc http://learn.wordpress.com/ and the “Video Quick Start” tutorial http://en.support.wordpress.com/video-quick-start/
Those two links cover all the basics.
I think you’ll find it to be very useful reading…
all the best. :)

Apologies Kathryn, I was typing and your post did not load… Thanks for noticing his thread :) Was going to modlook mark it :)
I really just try and answer a few things if I’m also waiting on a reply from my own thread… No, I’m not hinting though :)
Thanks again.
-
No need to apologize! Someone from the forum crew will definitely get to your thread since it’s modlooked. :-) (I handle theme stuff and CSS customization.)
-
Oh, ok thank you.. I know there is usually a wait time, that’s quite alright. I also like to read a lot of other threads.. it’s a good place to pick up on new information as well.. so I just add / help when I think it’s valid…
On apologizing.. oh well.. was accused of being a ‘staff wanna be’… (?) by a member earlier, kind of hurt my feelings.

Sorry but you are in the wrong forum.
This forum is only for blogs/sites hosted by WordPress.comWordPress.COM and WordPress.ORG are completely separate and different http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

galois – Thanks for pointing that out. Fortunately, all the themes I mentioned are also available for self-hosted sites, so this may still be helpful for barbersdrove.

I think Kathryn is also referring to the point of other wordpress.com users looking at this link in the future as well galois.. not necessarily only the op. For particular Theme Features etc.
