parent drop down list too short

  I am trying to create a page as a child of ‘Campaigning tools’. The drop down list doesnt go down that far, so I try and type in ‘campaigning tools’, however, by the time I have type ‘cam’ it has selected ‘Campaigns’. Can you help please? The page ‘campaigning tools’ does exist.

  Best way to manage your navigation menu is using the Custom Menu feature. Here you can simply add menu items and sub items to your navigation menu. You can follow the steps in this guide on how to create a custom menu: http://en.support.wordpress.com/menus

  Unfortunately following your advice has destroyed my site. Although if I edit an individual page the parent is shown correctly, when editing or setting menus neither ‘move up a level’ nor ‘move down a level’ work.

  phew! I had managed to check the box ‘automatically add to top level’. How dumb is that?
