Parent Pages

  For the last few days I have been unable to select parent pages in the Page Attributes module.

  Under Parent Page, I just have an empty box with an “x” on the right where there used to be a drop down menu.

  Any ideas?

  Thank you for the reply.

  I’ve tried clearing the cache (Edge) and even tried a different browser (Firefox), but still have the same problem.

  The Page Attributes module loads but I have no drop down menu for Parent Page, just an empty box, and so I am unable to assign a parent to any page I am editing.

  If I create and publish a new page, then what I am able to do is assign that most recently created page as a parent to one of my other pages. But obviously that is not a solution.

  That’s weird. Are you using the new interface at https://wordpress.com/pages/ or the classic one at https://tipsterstour.wordpress.com/wp-admin/edit.php?post_type=page ?

  If you’re using the former, try using the latter and let me know if it makes a difference.

  Yes I was able to select a parent page in the classic editor. Which gets me out of jail for now, so many thanks for this suggestion!

  Still, the problem remains in the new block editor which is what I normally use.

  Hi there,

  After taking a closer look I see there is already a report in front of our developers about this issue. To explain if your site as a large number of pages (you have over 300, which is quite a few) the “parent page” dropdown is very slow to load if it loads at all.

  Our developers are working on this issue but it is not an easy one to solve, so for now you may need to use the classic editor as a workaround. Another option is to use the “quick edit’ feature in wp-admin. You can see what I see at this link: https://d.pr/i/v8Q7sh

  I see! Yes the dropdown was kinda slow even when it was working, because as you say, I do have quite a lot of pages, and maybe need to rethink my site’s organization a bit there.

  In any case, the workaround is perfectly fine for the time being, so I will mark this issue as resolved.
