I’m new to WordPress and I don’t know how to create parent and child pages. I need a simple explanation.

Every theme has a detailed theme description page like this one at https://wordpress.com/themes/lovecraft/ That’s where set up instructions for it are found. The live demo site is at https://lovecraftdemo.wordpress.com/
Either a Parent Page or a sub page are both added into the custom menu the same way.

You’re welcome. See here for using the theme customizer https://en.support.wordpress.com/customizer/
