parents and educators uneasy about the security warnings with my WP blog?
-
Please help me to correct the untrusted site issue. My browser is Firefox 5.0. I have a mapped domain (with GoDaddy) pointing to my WP blog. This is my first blog, and I intent to post daily. Here is the message that I’ve copied/pasted:
“This Connection is Untrusted !
You have asked Firefox to connect securely to sensoryfriendly.org, but we can’t confirm that your connection is secure.
Normally, when you try to connect securely, sites will present trusted identification to prove that you are going to the right place. However, this site’s identity can’t be verified.
Thank you so much for your time and expert advice.
Sincerely, Jeannie

Are they accessing the Dashboard? If so, the error is normal and really nothing to worry about.
Basically, the issue here is that the secure script is signed for WordPress.com (as in sensoryfriendlylearning.wordpress.com), but you have sensoryfriendly.org appearing instead due to mapping. Your browser is noticing the difference and alerting you that WordPress.com could be “hijacking” your connection, which is more of less true, as you are connecting to WordPress.com, but it’s not malicious like your browser suspects.
The connection is still secure, but your browser is just concerned that the certificate is signed for a different domain.

Thank you so much Macmanx. Would the browser be able to reconcile its misunderstanding if I went with hosting and WordPress.org ?
or
is it a simple option of using http:// instead of the https ?
Thanks so much !

If you used http instead of https, the warning would go away, but your connection wouldn’t be secure.
As longas you setup your secure certificate tied to your own domain, you wouldn’t see the warning if you went with self-hosting.
Just to be clear, it’s not really a problem, just a misguided alert. Your connection here is still secure.
