Parents of Pages

  • Unknown's avatar

    Good Morning!

I want to add some pages from a previous website on WordPress since my new site is going to be my portfolio. Unfortunately, each time I had two new pages to a certain “parent page,” the “parent page” disappears and I can no longer choose that page. When I go to live view of my site, the pages are still there.

I have an interview on Monday and I would like to finish this project. However, my pages are disappearing in the “parent pages” option.

    Thanks!

    Hi there,

Sorry for the trouble! Can you give me an example of a parent page that’s disappearing like that? (You can give me the page title and/or a direct link to the page.) That way I can take a closer look at that to see what’s going on there.

    Hello!

So far it has happened to any page that I try to designate as a parent page. After I choose it to be a parent page once, it disappears and will not allow me to choose it again when I add a new page.

Some of the pages are: http://love2educate4life.com/portfolio/applying-educational-technology-to-practice/

    and http://love2educate4life.com/portfolio/teaching-for-understanding-with-technology/

This problem only just started last night.

    Thanks!

When I view your site, I can see the parent page (Portfolio) and the children pages via your custom menu, and they all seem to load fine.

Also, you can view all of these pages in your site’s Dashboard here, including the ones you mentioned:

Can you elaborate on what you mean when you say the parent page (i.e., Portfolio) disappears? How and when does this happen?

Once you give me some additional clarification, I will be more than happy to continue addressing your issue.

Like I said in the original posting, this is when I am adding a page, not on my actual website. When I go to “add page” on my dashboard, I can no longer choose the above pages as a parent page.

Please let me know if you need anymore clarification.

    @love2educate

    Thank you for the clarification.

I was able to create a new draft page that is a child of Portfolio without any issues:

    https://love2educate4life.wordpress.com/wp-admin/post.php?post=260&action=edit

Are you receiving an error when you try to accomplish this? If so, which screen are you on when it occurs? What does the error say?

If possible, send me a screenshot, so I can better understand the issue. You can simply upload the screenshot to your Media Library, like any other image, and I’ll be able to access it from there.

The page at the following link has some helpful tips for taking screenshots:

    Take a Screenshot

Once I get some feedback, we can take the next troubleshooting step in resolving your issue.

I am not trying to make a child of the portfolio page. I am trying to make child pages for “applying educational technology to practice” and “teaching for understanding with technology.” I added two child pages to each of these pages and now they have disappeared from choosing them in my parent pages list.

    Hello there!

In reading your goals for your menu, I think your best bet will be to create a custom menu:
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/

You’ll find the most flexibility in adding menus, sub-menus, sub-sub-menu items if you use the menu builder.

Your menu builder can be found right here:
    https://love2educate4life.wordpress.com/wp-admin/nav-menus.php?action=edit&menu=0

Give those steps a go, and if you get stuck along the way at all, I’m happy to jump in and help. Just let me know where you’re having any troubles.

That should do the trick! If I can help in any other way, please drop me a line. Cheers :)
