Parked Domain

  Hey there,
  I cancelled my domain with WordPress thinking I could then purchase it via Shopify but the domain is now parked. When will it be open so I can purchase it via Shopify or is there another way of doing this?

  Hey there,

  If you’re wanting to use your domain at a different host, we recommend that you never cancel it at your current host – once you decide to cancel your domain, there is no guarantee that you will be able to reacquire it in the future. Someone else could gain access to it. Also, it usually takes a few weeks for your domain registration to clear and become available once you cancel it. There isn’t an exact time, however, so you’ll be checking consistently to see when it becomes available.

  If you want to keep using your domain but you don’t want to use WordPress.com anymore, you don’t have to cancel it. Instead, you can transfer the domain to another site

  What we can do is restore the domain to your WordPress.com site, and then you can move the domain either through transfer or through pointing the nameservers over to the new host.
  
  Otherwise, the domain should be available within a few weeks, and you will need to check the status of the domain periodically to make sure you grab and register it with your new host.
