Part of the title in bold/italic
-
Hello,
I use to add
<em>and<b>within the title of my blogs posts, to have part of it in bold or italic. I did it on hundreds of blog posts and it worked perfectly fine… See by yourself:https://lecturelouan.wordpress.com/2019/06/09/anatomie-de-la-melancolie-par-robert-burton/

https://lecturelouan.wordpress.com/2018/10/18/la-coupe-dor-par-henry-james/…until recently. I don’t know why, I do the exact same process, and suddenly it does not work any longer!

Why so? I don’t understand…
Thank you for your help!

Hi, could you let us know when this started?
Also, can you tell us what editor you are using? For example, are you using an iPhone or Android app? If you’re using a browser, do you use wordpress.com/post or wp-admin?
We will go from there.
-
I noticed too, for now you can use “quick edit” on lecturelouan.wordpress.com/wp-admin/edit.php to fix the post that has HTML in its title. We’ll see if there’s a way to make it work as it did before though, too.

We discovered it november 26th. No we are not using any smartphone, only regular computer, as usual, on Windows. We are using a browser with /post.

First, please make sure that your browser is up to date: https://browsehappy.com/
If it is not, please try updating your browser or switching to a different browser.
If it is, please do these two things:
1. Try clearing your browser’s cache and cookies.
2. Try with all browser extensions or add-ons temporarily disabled.
Please let us know how each step goes for you, and which browser (and version of) you’re using if you’re still having trouble.

For information, we are two on the administration of the blog. My brother realized this problem on his own computer, and I had the same effect on my part.
I tested on various browsers, clearing cache and cookies, with all browers extensions disabled, and always get the same result.
I use Google Chrome, last version: 70.0.3945.88 (Official Build) (64 bits)
Interestingly enough, when there is an apostrophe in the title, like here:
https://lecturelouan.wordpress.com/2019/12/04/la-decheance-dun-homme-par-osamu-dazai/
…on the edition page, I get'instead of the apostrophe.I have to say I can fix the issue by using “quick edit” in /wp-admin/edit.php as supernovia suggested.
-
Sorry in the previous message, it shows the apostrophe instead of the code it displays. I meant I get :
& # 0 3 9 ;
…instead of apostrophe.
(I separated purposefuly the types in order not to display the apostrophe here again.) -
Chrome 79.0.3945 is the latest, just making sure that wasn’t a typo? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Google_Chrome_version_history
If not, here’s how to update: https://support.google.com/chrome/answer/95414
If your friend also running the same?

I meant I get : & # 0 3 9 ;
I see the same thing (') when adding an apostrophe in the Block editor (but using the /wp-admin dashboard it is fine) when saving/updating. However clicking on Preview in the Block editor and checking the published post then the apostrophe displays correctly. Have you checked Preview and how the post looks if you publish it?

Hi folks, here’s what I’m seeing:
https://github.com/Automattic/wp-calypso/issues/38521Basically any HTML character gets converted to its entity reference, so HTML added to titles is not rendering as HTML, like it has previously and like it does on my current WordPress.org installation.

I’ll let you know.
To be clear: on hundred of blog posts, when there was an apostrophe in the title, it was displayed as an apostrophe everywhere. It’s only since and when I have this problem of bold/italic in the title that the code appears, but only in the edition page. The apostrophe displays fine in the final publication. But the fact that it appears as a code (in the edition page) only since I have the bold/italic problem, and only on those blog posts is puzzling.
Thank you! Let me know if there is any news… If the rule suddenly changed, it’s a little bit frustrating because I relied on this rule (that titles accept html code) from the start, for hundreds of publications.

We’ll let you know as soon as this is fixed, or if you have a GitHub account, you can subscribe over at https://github.com/Automattic/wp-calypso/issues/38521 :)
