Partial blog export and transfer

    Hi, folks;
    Just wanted to see if anyone has been through this situation before, and could offer any suggestions or guidance.
    I’m about to follow these instructions to export a blog: http://en.support.wordpress.com/export

    Then I’m going to go back in and delete all of the posts, download most of not all of the uploaded pictures, and then transfer the blog to a new user.

    To make a long story short: I was the blogger for A Readers’ Companion To The Absinthe Drinkers (at theabsinthedrinkers.wordpress.com). My husband was the band’s lead guitarist for a bit over a year. He’s recently been asked to leave the band. The band wants the URL and the setup for the blog, but understand that they can’t have the content that I created. It’s 68 posts.

    If I export the blog, is this the same as making a downloadable copy that I can save on a hard drive, leaving itself as it is on WordPress.com, and then go in and delete my old posts from WordPress.com? Or does exporting remove all content from wordpress.com?

    Thanks in advance for any guidance you can provide.
    Sincerely,
    Lindsay (manifenestration)

    The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Export makes a copy of the Text only with links to the pictures in the Pages / Posts.

    Export does not delete anything.

    If you want a copy of any pictures in the old blog you would need to import the exported file into a new blog and ask the import to bring the pictures. You could save the xml file to your disk and it would have the text in it but not the pictures. If you could import into a new blog to get any pictures then mark the new blog as “Private”

    Once the export / transfer is completed you would need to go back to the original blog and delete the Posts you did not want to leave on the old blog.
