Hi have been trying to change my password for the last half an hour or so and every single time I enter a new password even a password that is generated by your site the site opens a sms verify text dialogue and has already forgotten the previous code even though it was told to remember it for 30 days … and then after a new code is entered has reset my password back to the original password that I was trying to change … ? apart from turning off two step verification which I’d rather not do is there a way around this ?

any help would be appreciated thank you

  • Just to be clear, are you trying to change this at https://wordpress.com/me/security ?

If so, please make sure that your browser is up to date: https://browsehappy.com/

If it is not, please try updating your browser or switching to a different browser.

If it is, please do these two things:

    1. Try clearing your browser’s cache and cookies.

    2. Try with all browser extensions or add-ons temporarily disabled.

Please let us know how each step goes for you, and which browser (and version of) you’re using if you’re still having trouble.

Already fixed it, thank you. (Am using firefox 74.1) debian Linux … didn’t need to clear cache or cookies. Just in the end deleted all app connections from wordpress privacy account tab and the old instance of firefox which was code connected so generated new codes for firefox (have two step verification you see and everytime I changed the password then pressed save a dialogue came up requesting me to send another request for a phone text with a new verification code … and the codes were not being remembered for the 30 days. Obviously you can only request a single verification text per minute. Way round it was to delete the old password from firefox using the logins and passwords on the browser settings menu and allow firefox to save the password as you are entering it into the wordpress save password text box and then just close browser down ignore if you can the second request for a verification code and then sign out of wordpress in the next firefox session and then re-sign in to wordpress again in which case you request a new verification code and enter it as firefox has already logged in enter that and hey presto back in. (I added a recovery email address to be on the safe side.) But yep no need to delete any cache
