password doesn’t work

The password I set didn’t work so I checked ‘lost password’ and was told to check my email for a new one. I did so, found the email, copied the new password and pasted it into the login slot. I was told the password was invalid. I tried again with the same result. I am about to abandon your whole site but before I do I will ask whether there is any reasonable way to use it. My browser is Firefox, if that matters

Don’t put your email in a public forum. Spammers will grab it.
Did you register for a blog? Did you just get a username?
Try the Cookie Dance: Log out, clear browser cache and cookies, and restart your computer. Sometimes that fixes things.
It’s very possible you’re trying to log into something OTHER than that you registered at. What web page EXACTLY did you register on?
